I returned Venu 2 - here is why...

Hello everyone

I was a proud owner of an F5X+ for a couple of years, but then I decided to change it for a better screen smartwatch and I chose Honor GS PRO.

It was a fantastic smartwatch, beautiful AMOLED screen, 14 days battery (8 days with AOD), ALL the training stats: Training Effect, Recovery, etc.
However, the lack of SUPPORT AND UPDATES after Honor separated from Huawei, no integration at all with 3rd party such MFP, Strava, or Fit, the poor design app (compared to Garmin), and the lack of a web option to track your data (compared to Garmin again) make me rethink it after 2 months.
When I saw the news about Venu 2, I was excited and decided to give it a try so I purchased one.

Nice screen, reply to notifications, sleep spO2 analysis, integration with MFP, FIT, etc, Total calorie count (not just the exercise) were nice features to have back.

But then I started to realize that the look of the watch is "cheap" plasticky for a 520$CAD watch, plus no training effect, training load, recovery, a battery that last ONLY 2 days (with all sensors, spO2 ONLY for sleeping track), NOT using the AOD... my excitement started to transform into disappointment.

I had issues with spO2, where values dropped to a low 80%! Even my F5X+ with an older sensor never ever give me lower than 90%, the battery never lasted more than 2 days with only 1 hour of exercise with GPS enabled per day, watch face selection was not good either...

It was too much for me to keep the watch. So I sent it back and I bought Huawei Watch 3 Active for 20$CAD more...

Yes, I will have to deal with the terrible app, no webpage, no integration, but at least I have the features that I want (and I think most people want).

I could accept the cheap look of the watch, the 2 days battery, and even the spO2 readings, if I have the other features (TE, TL, R, etc).

For me, The stupidity of the Garmin management to artificially remove features and continue the disappointment of their users forced me to switch to Huawei.

That is my story.

  • Your watch only lasted 2 days? Mine lasts about 5-6 days and I have the same functions on ... plus two gps activities a day (and it is recharging extremely fast when needed). I also have no problems with spO2.
Personally, I am happy with the purchase. I think that the watch does not look ugly, the screen is very nice and the dimensions of the watch are perfect in my case. Unfortunately, the more expensive watches from the fenix line are a bit too big for my taste. In addition, the application is phenomenal, the web interface, the entire ecosystem - this is Garmin's strength. Of course, I miss some functions from the fenix line, but fenix 7, according to rumors, should appear soon ...

  • Yes, I had 24x7 HR, spO2 for sleeping, no AOD, using the watch 1 hour per day for GPS activity.

Notification on, medium bright, connected to my phone 24x7.

By the end of day 2, battery was 15%. For me, having the F5X+ and then the GS Pro, for this price I did not like it visually. Looks too plastic to me taste for that price and without the features.

I know, Garmin app is the best. period.

But I rather have a better watch than better app...

  • The V2 will last 2 days with the Always On Display (AOD) feature active. With AOD off, it will last 5-6 days.

IMO, 2 days with AOD on is perfectly acceptable and far better than Apple's feeble attempt at a smart watch.

  • The AMOLED display uses more battery than the Memory in Pixel (MIP) display used on many other watches.  The vivoactive 4 for example, or any of the forerunners.

  • Maybe I got a defective unit, I do not know.

AOD off, lasted 2 days ...

When you bought your unit, it came sealed in a plastic wrap or just one circular plastic sticker at the bottom?

  • I have 4 Garmin watches including a 5X and a Venu and am also now disappointed in the Gamin model, so have decided these will be my last Garmin watches and will move to the Apple watch once they have improved their battery technology.

Until then I will stick with having to rotate my Venu and my 5X in order to get the statistics I want (training effect, training load, recovery) which is not the way we should have fudge it.

  • The stupidity of the Garmin management to artificially remove features and continue the disappointment of their users

I constantly read comments like this and it makes absolutely no sense to me.  The biggest argument I hear is that the watch is already capable of said feature and it's not a "major" upgrade.  Well, who makes that decision?  You?  Me?  What's important and minor to you may not be for the next guy.  And to what end does Garmin keep adding features?  Here's the alternative.  One watch, that does everything at one price.  That doesn't benefit Garmin from a business stance and it doesn't help the consumer either when they aren't given choices.  Garmin didn't sell you a watch and then "remove features".  Garmin decided to omit some of their features from the V2.  They also didn't "force" you to switch devices.  You had a choice and you used that choice to change.  Does Huawei have a forum?  If so, will you be there posting about the stupidity of Huawei management and the disappointment of their users because there's....

no integration at all with 3rd party such MFP, Strava, or Fit, the poor design app (compared to Garmin), and the lack of a web option to track your data

The grass is always greener on the other side.

  • Sounds to me that You are taking this personal..

I have the choice and I made it.

I can be dissatisfied and disappointed and I have my right to express my opinion.

YES, I will think that Garmin is purpose neglecting what the user's want.

A watch, with AMOLED screen, with training features. Same as the competition...

As is said, it is my opinion, noone else but mine.

And you can be a fanboy of Garmin (sound like it) and defend your point of view without questioning other opinions.

I'm not taking it personal.  I have no horse in this race.  And when you post on an open forum that you're dissatisfied and disappointed, you don't believe it's fair for others to comment or ask you questions?  There was no attack against you.  Just simple questions you seem to not want to answer.

    Same as the competition..

It's not the same as the competition.  You said that yourself when you said you left Huawei because...

no integration at all with 3rd party such MFP, Strava, or Fit, the poor design app (compared to Garmin), and the lack of a web option to track your data
  • Export your .FIT file to Runalyze, you can get those metrics (and more) on that site.
