Pulse Ox Accuracy Suddenly Changed

Hello,

The Pulse Ox measurements were always within a percentage point, or the same as, my finger tip device. A few days ago, that changed. I now receive the "check watch fit" message more often, and when I get a reading it's usually at least 3% below the finger tip device's reading.

This changed suddenly a few days ago. The only thing I know of that changed was I took my phone from Android 12 beta to Android 11 public release. On 12 beta I was getting the good readings, as soon as I wiped my phone and reconnected, the reading got worse.

I did a factory reset on the watch but no improvement in the Pulse Ox readings. Has anyone else noticed a change like this?

  • So far it seems that as soon as the sensor gets even a little dirty the SPO2 readings are affected. Make no mistake we are all beta testers for this new Garmin sensor before it gets placed in the Fenix 7

  • Yeah, I rinsed it off a few times thinking that might help. It's weird, it just stopped being as accurate as it was. I loaded the beta software but it's still the same.

  • As a follow up, I just put my Venu on one wrist and my Venu 2 on the other. The Venu measured 98%, the Venu 2 measured 94%. My finger tip instrument measured 98%.

The Venu was the worse for accuracy in the past. Now the Venu 2 just got worse, seemingly out of nowhere.

  • I need to try with my Venu on one wrist, Venu 2 on the other and a fingertip sensor. I am getting worried about the Pulse OX values I am seeing.

Also very very confused by the drastically different fitness ages I am getting in the 2 watches. Only a couple years above my chronological age now (which I don't trust since I am woefully out of shape). Vs a fitness age that was a decade+ older than my chronological age. Tweaking a fitness age algorithm is one thing, but these massive discrepancies really cause me to lose faith in Garmin.

  • That's interesting. I don't get a fitness age on my Venu, only my Venu 2.

  • For OG Venu it is on VO2 Max page.
