HR Bluetooth smart broadcasting

Hi,

Is there any news regarding HR Bluetooth smart broadcasting? On the DC rainmaker review it mentions the following:

"While the Venu 2 supports re-broadcasting your heart rate as an ANT+ signal, it doesn’t yet support Bluetooth Smart broadcasting, which is kinda bizarre in 2021. After all, many of Garmin’s other newer watches support this. Garmin says it’s working on adding it for the Venu 2 series, but doesn’t have a timeframe for when exactly that’ll happen."

I would be very keen for this watch but want my HR to be broadvast to my Apple TV for Zwift.

Thanks :)

  • Oddly enough, the V2 does advertise itself as a source of heart rate, running speed & cadence, over BTLE ... but it is not actually providing the data.

It would be nice if it would offer that data.

  • Interesting, I will keep an eye out in the release notes of any future updates and see if it tempts me to purchase one to use day to day along side my bulky Fenix. Hopefully they have a substancial update in the pipeline which covers more than just Golf Laughing

  • I’d like my venu 2 much more if they did add Bluetooth broadcasting. Honestly, I agree — we shouldn’t have been having this discussion for a 2021 garmin.

  • Totally agree. How is this even a 2021 conversation? Garmin really needs to fix this, hopefully it’s doable via a software update

  • I'm also very much interested in the addition of HR broadcasting over BLE for Venu 2.

Currently ANT+ support is dropped for Android 11 due to missing ANT HAL Service and you cannot enable a USB dongle-based ANT+ reception on any tablet/phone running Android 11 and therefore you can't use Venu 2 for Zwift HR tracking without a BLE-enabled chest strap.

I believe Garmin need to hurry up with an update adding HR Broadcasting over BLE for Venu 2 as they are missing out on the casual user market who want to ride Zwift-enabled exercise bikes in the pandemic.

Garmin Forums please provide an ETA for adding HR Broadcasting over BLE for Venu 2 as it can't be used with Zwift or AI Gym (Renpho) due to suspended support of ANT+ for Android 11 devices phones/tablets.

Please tell us it is coming and when it is coming. We are very much interested! Thank you!

  • Check out the latest beta firmware, believe they have added support for this.

  • You are right! They have just announced a new FW that includes HR broadcasting over BLE. Happy days!

    Public Beta 5.18 Now Available

  • I just downloaded the beta and did a workout on my Proform bike. The bluetooth broadcast finally worked!! Good job Garmin.

  • Can you shed some light on HOW is HR broadcasting supposed to be used? Did Garmin add the Virtual Run capability or you use the broadcast function where instead of ANT+ you choose BLE? I'm curious.

  • I downloaded and installed the beta software update from the Garmin website. Under settings -> Wrist heart rate, I have always had the broadcast in activity setting set to ON. Prior to the update, when I started an indoor bike run activity, I never saw my HR broadcast to my bike. After the new update, I see my HR being broadcasted to the bike during activity.

My bike only accepts broadcasts via BLE, which has now been included as part of the latest Garmin software update.
