Garmin, Shame on you - horrible update policy!!!!!

This is an expensive device for what it offers, Apple Watch expensive. The most expensive lifestyle watch out there. I understand that it doesn't offer all the things the F945 or Fenix line offers.

But your update policy is a shame.

There are so many bugs, so many. Sleep not syncing. stuttering all over the place, nothing on this fluent. animations way too slow. Fade in of time when turning wrist is a joke, takes seconds to show completely. Sleep doesn't sync even though it is recored on the watch. GPS fix on some watches fail or take up to 5 minutes. PulseOX is still all over the place but instead of 89 on old sensor I now get 93%, with a Pulse ox device it is 98-99%. God....

Missing features or settings which have been requested a long time since release.

Like a very low brightness setting for always on display to get more battery life than 3 days. No one needs even the lowest brightness setting for that as it is way too bright for always on.

Like a resume later option for activities, esp walking, hiking etc. No one hikes without a pause of MORE than 15 minutes.

Like making an extra step when pausing an activity for ending/saving it, so you don't accidentally swipe on it during a pause and an activity is deleted or saved without you wanting it.

Like saving timers.

Like bigger fonts everywhere to actually make the display rebate for most people, fonts are way too small almost everywhere, esp. sleep, sleep score etc.

Like, like, like...

Forum is full of request for bug fixes, answers from Garmin and minor feature request.

One bigger update with a few bug fixes almost no one needed and then silence. But you sent an update for golf which almost no one uses instead of actually doing buy fixes of stuff everyone needs and uses.

I understand the feature may take longer but bug fixes which are necessary for us to use the watch in a normal way should have been fixed a long time ago. It has been almost 3 months since the watch was released and it is still full of bugs and almost no fix since then.

It is so frustrating. I would recommend anyone who considers buying this watch and reading this: DON'T BUY IT! Instead for almost same price buy something different, even within Garmin there are better choices, or at least much cheaper devices.

  • This has been my experience as well.

  • Yes I use both. The Venu 2 is used as a (expensive) fitness tracker. For sport I use the 945 or 6X

I really like the look of the Apple watch but I have an Android. Why do you need the Venu2 for fitness, does it track more than the Apple?

  • I use the Apple Watch for 6 months of the year (when I’m home) but for the other 6 I’m away, off-grid, so need the battery life Garmin gives. Also, out-of-the-box Garmin does fitness and health tracking in much greater detail than Apple. You can add Apps to Apple but it’s still not anywhere near as complete a package. However, as a day-to-day smartwatch Apple is just better in almost every way. Apple does most of the health and fitness basics well enough but if you want in-depth fitness/training information then it can’t match a higher end Garmin. Now, the Venu 2 doesn’t have a lot of these higher end training features so can be compared with the Apple Watch. For me the Apple watch is the more finished and higher quality product (over any Garmin actually). I use the Venu 2, even when using the Apple Watch, because I have years of Garmin health and fitness data that I want to keep complete, and up to date.

I really do like all my Garmin products but I wish they would build them (software and hardware) to a level that matches their high end price. Every single Garmin watch I have owned has suffered some kind of hardware fault during its life, which I find shocking. Yes, these watches are not toys for me and they get well used, but certainly never abused.

We're complete opposites. I've been using Garmin watches for more than a decade and I've never had a problem.

Yes, these watches are not toys for me

This is how I felt about an AW6 that was given to me as a gift from my daughter in law.  Absolutely hated it after 3 days and I viewed it more as a toy than a fitness device. I felt bad because it was a gift, but my daughter in law understood and gave me the green light to sell it.

  • I've been using Garmin watches for more than a decade and I've never had a problem.

Agreed. I have a Vivomove, Vivoactive 4, and now a Venu 2. All work great.

  • I’ve had a string of Garmins since the 235. Never had a fault with any of them except my Fenix 5X which developed the cracked HRM - Garmin replaced the watch with a new one at two years old as it was part of a faulty batch.  The replacement has been perfect.

  • £199 won’t buy the latest Apple Watch. It will buy a Series 3 which has update issues.

  • Correct. However the Venu 2 is a lower end Garmin watch (it can’t even do basic navigation) so should be compared with a similar low end Apple Watch

  • I have to disagree. The AW3 is many years old and not up to date. But the V2 was just released so you have to compared it to the latest AW. And the V2 is the highest end of all lifestyle watches Garmin offers. More expensive Garmin watches are full featured sport watches which are totally different and offer much much more and different stuff and can't really be compared. They don't have Oled, but buttons instead, and many training features which you also have to pay for which you don't get with the V2. The V2 is indeed very expensive comparing it to the AW. Fitbit etc. is way less expensive.

I didn't wanna start a comparison to the AW here though and this is offtopic. Just a complain about how bad Garmin's update policy is. And what we pay for this expensive lifestyle watch...
