Garmin, Shame on you - horrible update policy!!!!!

This is an expensive device for what it offers, Apple Watch expensive. The most expensive lifestyle watch out there. I understand that it doesn't offer all the things the F945 or Fenix line offers.

But your update policy is a shame.

There are so many bugs, so many. Sleep not syncing. stuttering all over the place, nothing on this fluent. animations way too slow. Fade in of time when turning wrist is a joke, takes seconds to show completely. Sleep doesn't sync even though it is recored on the watch. GPS fix on some watches fail or take up to 5 minutes. PulseOX is still all over the place but instead of 89 on old sensor I now get 93%, with a Pulse ox device it is 98-99%. God....

Missing features or settings which have been requested a long time since release.

Like a very low brightness setting for always on display to get more battery life than 3 days. No one needs even the lowest brightness setting for that as it is way too bright for always on.

Like a resume later option for activities, esp walking, hiking etc. No one hikes without a pause of MORE than 15 minutes.

Like making an extra step when pausing an activity for ending/saving it, so you don't accidentally swipe on it during a pause and an activity is deleted or saved without you wanting it.

Like saving timers.

Like bigger fonts everywhere to actually make the display rebate for most people, fonts are way too small almost everywhere, esp. sleep, sleep score etc.

Like, like, like...

Forum is full of request for bug fixes, answers from Garmin and minor feature request.

One bigger update with a few bug fixes almost no one needed and then silence. But you sent an update for golf which almost no one uses instead of actually doing buy fixes of stuff everyone needs and uses.

I understand the feature may take longer but bug fixes which are necessary for us to use the watch in a normal way should have been fixed a long time ago. It has been almost 3 months since the watch was released and it is still full of bugs and almost no fix since then.

It is so frustrating. I would recommend anyone who considers buying this watch and reading this: DON'T BUY IT! Instead for almost same price buy something different, even within Garmin there are better choices, or at least much cheaper devices.

  • I agree with a lot here. Apple Watch price but not in quality. Not even close!

  • I have had an androidwear watch, a Samsung watch, and now 2 different Garmins. The Samsung forums are full of comments very similar to the ones we see here. I feel like what we are experiencing is indicative of the smartwatch segment. I agree with a lot of the requests but I also feel like the watch is the best one I have had so far. But yes, ahhh, that Apple Watch. I see it on other's wrists and think, man I know it's expensive but I should just buy one. Oh but wait I have an Android and hate i-phones. So I can't. Shame on YOU Apple.

  • The problem with Apple Watch is not the watch price, as many Garmin watches are more expensive, the problem is that they work only with iPhones, which I find very expensive compared to an Android top phone

  • There are a lot of little things that are better then the Apple Watch as well keep in mind. I can look at my Venu 2 and see my heart rate on my watch face but on my Apple Watch it only records once every 10 mins so its never accurate when you look down at your heart rate complication. Also they limit developers from updating data on watch faces often so looking at steps using a complication such as pedometer++ will always be behind on the watch face unless you actually click into the app and force a refresh. Not to mention the 18 hours of battery life the Apple Watch gets. With the Screen on the Venu 2, that was really the only thing I was keeping my Apple Watch Series 6 for. Well that and the unlock with a mask thing that works with the iphone to apple watch connection

  • The battery life, yes. Also, for me coming from a Samsung the charge time is a big factor. The Samsung watch has a tiny wireless charge pad and while that is maybe slightly more convenient the charge time is really slow. So the watch would go down to 20 or 30% in a day and then take 3 hours to charge. With the Garmin it gets down to 70 or so (PulseOx on overnight) and then it is fully charged in the time it takes me to shower.

  • Um I use golf so I was thankful for the update as the golf app was crashing upon start. I agree there are fixes to be made especially with the pulse ox, its still terrible. I unfortunately don’t have all the issues you are having

  • This is not about Apple vs Garmin. And it shouldn't be. Update policy of Apple is in no way in any competition to Garmin either. Way better.

This should just show how expensive this device is and how bad the update policy is.

  • It doesn’t sound like the Garmin Venu/2 is for you then. I’ve had Garmins for years and liked every one. I’ve recently had an Apple Watch 6 but sold it after 6 months - couldn’t stand the battery life and the ridiculously over stuffed and disorganised health app - oh and the HRM was hopelessly unreliable, especially in the winter. Each generation of Garmin watch contains many improvements - I have the Venu 2S and think it’s one of the best yet. It’s not perfect but I don’t know a watch that is. I have no problems with syncing anything, the display is excellent, HRM works within a few seconds of wearing it, GPS takes approx 10 seconds to get a fix and the battery life is amazing. Oh and it looks nice too. Mine wasn’t Apple Watch price - I paid £262 with £87 discount - bargain. My wife has one too and she loves it - no issues either. I did pay full price for hers but I still think it’s worth it.

  • £199 will buy you an Apple Watch ;-)

This thread has become a Apple vs Garmin rant which as the author said was not the intention. Me, I simply find garmin watches to be not of a quality that reflects the price. Since I moved to garmin I’ve had 935 - cracked hr sensor, 5x - cracked hr sensor, 945 - sticking buttons, replacement just the same, 6X pro - charging connector failed. Venu 2 is ok so far but has a few software issues. Issues I had with 3 suunto watches was zero, issues with 3 apple watches was also zero. There is certainly room for improvement here

  • After 3 Apple watches why did you switch? Or maybe you are using both?
