treadmill vs indoor walking

whats the difference between the two, I own a treadmill and it's what i use for walking but the distance is way way off, and no calibration option for indoor walking I've noticed

Nope, the custom stride length doesn't seem to change anything on my device for indoor walking.

Apparently the pace and distance is going to be way off unless you use a footpod which is disappointing. I've tried both and neither one works well for those 2 metrics. I assumed indoor walking was for indoor walking and treadmill was for indoor running at least by the looks of the icons on the activities.

I will mention however it does appear to get the pace and distance if I run or jog on my treadmill. Walking is what it has trouble with for some reason.

I believe, in the absence of a foot pod,, there's a place in Garmin Connect (Web version) that you can put in a custom stride length. If you do this, perhaps your indoor walking will reflect a more accurate distance.
