weight training

I use a weight training machine, can I use that with my Venu 2 and will it record what exercise I'm doing ?

  • It depends on the exercise (movement). I'm using mine to track my strength training workouts. Some exercises it guesses (tracks) well (such as curls & presses) and others it doesn't. For example, you cannot expect the watch to track leg-extensions or leg-curls.  I adjust the rep count, if necessary, on the watch at the end of the set and then edit the exercise name later, if necessary, on the phone or PC in Garmin Connect. It is tedious, but having a log of all my workouts is nice.

  • thanks for that I'm now doing the same, I think it all helps with the motivation when you can see what you've done and what muscle groups you're targeting.  And at 61 I need all the motivation I can muster some days

  • I'm with you brother!  I've got you beat by two years.  I just finished logging/editing today's workout.  It's a pain in the rear, sometimes, to go back and make the edits and corrections but I like having all the data and love seeing the workouts on the calendar (especially on the PC).  It also helps to make sure I'm targeting various muscle groups evenly.  Over time the reporting is helpful, interesting and sometimes eye opening!  For instance, I never realized how the "Volume" adds up (almost always over 20,000 lbs on leg day).

  • I programed the workout on the desktop app, sync'd it to the watch and then select "strength, Gary's workout" and start, it tells me what exercise, weights and reps etc and after each set, i press the bottom button and adjust the amount of reps for that set.. I do that for ever set and it saves having to go over it all and make corrections later (you can edit up, down and then hit green tick !)
