Couple of issues

I've been using Venu 2 (brand new) for the last 1 month. Got all the updates and running on 3.24.

Really liked the following:

1. GPS lock was near instant (always less than 10 secs) for the first couple of weeks.

2. Cardio tracking with OHR was excellent with no lag. Compared it with a external HR band paired to Map My Fitness app on my iPhone.

3. Weight lifting HR was more or less on track with the external HR band.

All good during the first few weeks of honeymoon and then it all started. GPS is now taking close to 3 minutes (same location - full sun - no clouds). I always wait until the GPS lock shows GREEN. Also, the running distance is now less than what I see in the initial weeks. Same route with no changes.

Yesterday's GPS lock was terrible. It took close to 8 minutes for a Walk profile. Same location and the weather was clear with full sun. On the 9th minute, the Walk activity hung up with no numbers changing in the display. I let it continue until I was done with the Walk and had to restart the device after 30 mins. The Walk activity was logged as 1 minute with 5 calories.

Something has gone really wrong. I really was very happy with the watch and I'm at loss on why these issues are popping up after couple of weeks of excellent performance.

Time to return for a refund?

  • For GPS, sync with a computer running Garmin Express.  There's a prediction file for GPS, but it's only good for 1-2 weeks.  In "About" on your watch swipe down to the very end and you should see "Current CPE Info: Current".

That's the state of the prediction file.

  • I don't think Garmin Express is needed. As long as you sync your device your GPS should stay current. I never use Garmin Express, only Connect and mine stays current.

  • That is absolutely not needed. GPS should update through Garmin connect wirelessly. if not, then there is something wrong.

  • I experience more and more problems now too unfortunately.

I now have the same GPS fix problems. It was nearly instantly at the beginning, 2-10 seconds at most. Before updating to 3.40 and new GPS SW it already went to like 2 minutes, but with very cloudy sky. Now, a week later and with 3.40 and new GPS SW installed, I didn't get a GPX fix in walking activity even after 5-10 minutes later with sunny blue sky. I know after several days and even a SW update it might take longer, but no fix after 5-10 minutes? And strangely the position finder in control menu gave me an instant position, as if the watch already found gps but the walking activity was still at only 80-90% at "waiting for GPS" 10% increase of status per minute. CPE is current. Syncing via BT to GC every day. Very strange cause GPS fix was amazingly fast in the beginning.

And I have more and more touchscreen issues. My hands aren't wet or even a bit sweaty still no reaction to touches or swipes a lot of times. Touchscreen wasn't perfect from the start too begin with but it gets worth and worth each day. Many swipes and touches and no reaction. I often have to touch and swipe several times for the watch to show a reaction.

I am so disappointed. I really wish I would have waited and bought the 945 LTE with new sensors and new chip but no touchscreen and no bad battery life with always on display. Besides that I like the watch. But how can it be that a watch reacts worth and worth each day?

Did a hardreset and full wipe today and will see if it brings any improvement. But I doubt it.

My first amazing impression has vanished. The touchscreen problems are the most annoying.

And still no fix to the really bad system wide swiping. Stuttering all through the system when scrolling. Something that should have been resolved already. Very annoying.

  • My experience isn't bad like Zange's but the touchscreen failures get annoying. I have the shortcut set to media controls and I'm constantly swiping more than once to get to the controls. Quite frustrating.

  • software on the watch is laggy

the gps has some serous issues wating 5 min or more my old samsung was instant less then 10 sec

auto-restart of the watch just browsing trough the menu

They need to fix a lot of bugs on the watch.

  • I don t notice all of your problem.

The only bug I found was, when I change watchface, that she can restart.

Since the new firmware, does t appear anymore.

The GPS fix time is around 2 up to 30 second depending of the weather.

I am in the campaign, no building around.

    The touchscreen is good responsivity.

I have the alarm on swipe left, and I use it nearly everyday without any trouble

    Thanks for all the replies.

I got a replacement to the first one and haven't setup the 2nd one yet. My question is if I add a new Venu 2 (the one I just got as a replacement) and forget the first one, does it transfer all of the learnings of my activity from the first one to the 2nd one? In other words, does Garmin Venu 2 learn my activities and optimize the recommendations and will that information get transferred to the 2nd one? I don't want to recreate all of the activities that I did with my first one.

    Please advise.

  • Activities are saved. You will have to set preferences on your new watch.
