I noticed my GPS tracking on my activities is all over the place when I'm in downtown Chicago where I work. But when I'm back in the suburbs it looks fine. Is this normal?

I live near Chicago also (near Schaumburg) ... on the rare occasions I'm in the city, I've found GPS's to be generally inaccurate due to all the buildings. When I'm on the road, riding trails…

Yeah, it’s called an urban canyon.

All the glass and steel reflects satellite signals repeatedly, so that there is little hope to get an accurate location fix.

Large city with many towers and skyscrapers or also a in the wood with many trees plus maybe a lot of clouds, it is very hard to get constant good GPS signal I think. I live in an area with only a few towers but around that sometimes it gets a little finicky. I just posted a thread about how accurate V2GPS seems to be in comparison to older Garmin's and other watches. And MUCH faster GPS fix. But I think with all those things mentioned it can get worth and lose signal all the time. Do you have other watches to compare? I don't have a city with sooo many towers to test it myself.

This isn't a Garmin thing ... just a GPS thing.

Fyi... I’ve owned about half a dozen Garmin GPS watches over the years, and in my experience so far the Venu 2 is among the best Garmin has made. Significantly better than the higher priced Fenix 6.
Very good to know... thanks for sharing that.
I was thinking it might be due to all the buildings and now I've learned something. Another reason I don't like the big city. Lol
If you do most or all of your running in the city you’re probably better off using an iPhone to record your run. In addition to GPS, they can also triangulate your position using the dozens or hundreds of wifi signals you run past (like the Starbucks on every block).
No apple fan here... only ever buy android.
Is it just tracking that is inaccurate or is the miles inaccurate also?
It won’t effect step counting, just location.
but miles should be close to accurate, no?
