Venu 2 counting too many steps

My venu 2 is counting way too many steps! I have adjusted my stride length to be unreasonably long to try to mitigate the step count to be closer to accurate, but it still almost triple counts the amount of steps I take. Walking from the bathroom to the living room is 12 steps, but the venu 2 counts sometimes over 36!

Does anyone know how I might solve this?

It's a calibration issue that seems to arise on many Garmin watches, but quite pronounced on the Venu 2. I'll just go out and generalize from our experience with a few Garmin watches one being Venu 2.…

Hi MrDenis,

I did try to count my steps but not against the watch. The watch count steps even when I sit while I am driving! This is crazy I drove for about 2 hours, the watch count about 4000 steps. This is insane.

The least Garmin should do is to add the ability to disable this feature for those who wants to see their own actual real health data without misleading information. I have several simple ideas of how to improve the algorithm (at least when we are outdoors).

Well I hate to be that guy but every watch or tracker I've ever owned counted phantom steps in the car, Garmin or other. It's just the movement/vibration over time. Shouldn't be that many but over long drives it can add up for sure.

I always see it as an estimation only, but I mean double is definitely not normal.

Contact Garmin support, that doesn't sound normal. I find Garmin's step counter to be fairly accurate, at least in comparison to my Vantage V2, which is far too generous when it comes to steps.

I just received my Venu 2, and I am experiencing the same issue. While sitting, it went from about 20 steps it had counted before, to about 300.

Overnight, it added almost 400 steps more. It seems the only option I have at the moment is not to wear the watch, until I actually go outside.

I sent emailed Garmin support.

I think a new watch is aligning itself with your gait and is calibrating the sensitivity in those first days. Hence it will be responding too much to movement at the beginning.

This will solve itself.

Go out for a run with GPS on.

Walk a few kilometers with the watch over a few days.

Indeed. Going outside a couple of times seems to have helped. The counting is now definitely more accurate.
I also changed the GPS from Glonass to Galileo.

One issue that still remains though is the inaccurate step counting while moving the wrist, for instance when brushing my teeth, stirring while cooking, and so on.

So, to avoid confusion, I think I'll have to take the watch off while indoor.

I have the same issue. I got my Venu 2 Plus a couple of weeks ago. It is totally off with step counts. For example today I was working from home (literally sitting in front of my computer all day) and it shows I have already walked 3032 steps. All I have done is to walk between my room and kithen and drove to drop my son to school. It even adds in around 400 steps when I am sleeping (and I know I do not sleep walk) between 00:00 to 06:00. Anyone knows how to fix this issue?

Did you manage to resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem with my Epix gen 2 that I got a few days ago
