Venu 2 counting too many steps

My venu 2 is counting way too many steps! I have adjusted my stride length to be unreasonably long to try to mitigate the step count to be closer to accurate, but it still almost triple counts the amount of steps I take. Walking from the bathroom to the living room is 12 steps, but the venu 2 counts sometimes over 36!

Does anyone know how I might solve this?

  • That’s funny mine seems to count way less. For every 5k steps my Fitbit Inspire 2 tracks the Venu 2 tracks 1k less

  • This is really ridiculous, how the simplest things like step counting or floors climbed is so difficult for these very expensive watches these days ... Mine counts steps while I am in the car, for a change ... :-D

  • My wife has this issue as well with her brand new Venu 2S. Her Venu is continuously adding "magical" steps even while in total rest. She wakes up with several hundred steps and after only indoor activities already has a few thousand steps. Is Garmin active on this forum or is there any other way to contact support?

  • Just placed an order for Venu 2 but now seeing these issues over counting steps and climbed stairs, I am already thinking of return it before even receiving the watch. Please can someone advise if these problems have been resolved with software update.

    With best wishes,

    Sl

  • I have bought my watch six days ago (thinking I am buying one of the best products currently available).

Unfortunately, it seems that the steps counter algorithm is not working properly (@ best case or not working at all in worst case).

I can understand that the algorithm can not be improved since the watch is located on the wrist. But I can not understand why I can not disable this invalid sensor data from being log within my daily activity!

I don't understand why Garmin doesn't fix this issue!

I don't know how samsung or iPhone handles this feature but I wouldn't by this product if I was aware of this horrible bug!

  • We had the same problem and it seemed like a calibration issue with a new watch. After a few walks and GPS-tracked runs (and perhaps software updates since they are silent) my wife’s Venu 2 gives approximately the same results as my forerunner 645. So it sorted itself out in about a week.

  • My steps and stairs seem pretty good actually. Always keep in mind these things aren't magical, they still have a margin of error. If I go based off my Vivoactive 3 it seems a bit better even. I am having other issues, so there may need a firmware update or something...

  • Thanks, I have tried your hints, but the issues seems to remain.

  • I do not speak of margin of error, my watch calculates twice the steps, and even third times of the actual steps my phone is counting.

I can accept that, but the associated Garmin connect application (and the connected apps) calculate my working/active time,

calories, and other health data using this invalid/wrong/errored information (metadata)!

This is my issue, this should concern all the Users who bought the watch to monitor sports and health activity (arent we all bought that watch for that?).

  • Oh I totally get it. My Venu 2 is also on the fritz for calories, but what I'm saying is mine seems to get my steps right, so it may be yours, or there are other issues with the firmware. Twice the steps is kind of insane.

Have you tried actually counting your steps for a short distance? I know it sounds silly but it could tell you where the error margin happens...
