Durability and quality of garmin daily watches

Hello,

I just want to start off my saying ive only ever owned 1 smart watch. I'm very active and regularly do activities that you shouldn't with my current smart watch (fitbit charge 4) like I'll wear it during rugby practice, before and after a game, during scrimmages where a lot of contact and shock is being made on my body and the watch. I didnt think much of it as I am interested in my workouts and i consider those as apart of that, but im running into issues with durability. My fitbit has a plastic clamp that holds the bands to the watch that has completely snapped off from the shock of my training and exercises.

So what in curious about is which garmin smart watch has touchscreen, good and accurate fitness tracking (HR, active minutes, auto track exercises), and is durable and shock resistant enough to handle heavy cardio and shocks from possible impacts?

I fully understand that garmin has a great lineup of outdoor durable smartwatches that would work but lack some functions i want, so i was wondering if something like the vivoactice or venu was a good middle ground while also being of better quality and wont scratch or break if it takes a hit to the ground or something of the sort.

Any and all help is appreciated,

Thanks!

  • Why don’t you get a Venu 2 and an HR band for the game(Garmin or polar)? It will give you your stats while keeping the watch safe in the bag ;)

  • I have a fitbit versa 2 and a garmin venu, and I was able to buy case + screen protectors from Amazon and Ebay for them.  I don't know if they would work in your situation,  but it's a thought.  If you do a search, you can find protectors for some of the vivoactive watches also.  I have only had the venu for a sort time, so I can't attest to its durability.   When I do yard work, I wear my old fitbit one, as I get very sweaty and dirty.  I don't know if I would have the nerve to wear a garmin band type tracker during this activity.  I wouldn't wear a smart watch, though.

  • Do your research.  Garmin can be a bit tricky on some watches.   There where problems with the 640 (broken bandconnectors on the watch),  the vivosmart series (bands and darking display) and the VENU (burn-in problems).  These problems surface after a while.  So a brand now model, you are a beta tester (and more that het software).

The service of Garmin can be great of not.  It is like rolling the dice.
