Under desk treadmill step count

I am currently using a Venu 2 Plus watch, however, the watch doesn't register any steps when I am walking on my under desk treadmill coz my arms are resting on the desk. If I use the HRM Pro Plus with my watch - 1) Will it record the steps on the under desk treadmill even when my hands are resting on the table 2) Would I need to start an activity like walk/run to register the steps? 3) If yes, would those steps get added to my daily step count?

  • 1. Hard to say. In theory it should work.

    2. No.

  • Try putting your watch in your pants pocket. With your arm on the desk, it won't have a good count of steps, as the watch can't "see" them.

This isn't uncommon, as the same thing can happen when you are pushing a shopping cart or stroller, using hiking polls, etc,  Anything where your arm is fairly stationary.

  • No, that’s not going to work.  I used to push mom’s wheelchair around a 1 mile lake walk, and nothing.  Putting it in your pocket works.  I finally bought a used vivosport/smart, cut the strap off it and routinely use it as a pedometer.  Works just fine.

  • Thank you for your post. Unfortunately, the watch will not register any steps if there is lack of arm movement. Our watches will only track steps when your arms are swinging back and forth in a walk like motion. Starting as activity will still require arm movement to record steps. But yes, if an activity records step data it would be applied to the daily total step count.

  • I tuck my Garmin Venu 2 in my sock whilst using the walking pad under a sit stand desk. Seems to register steps with reasonable accuracy. Certainly more accurate then leaving it on wrist and registering zero. Hope that helps.
