Venu 2 Plus - 17.04 update - Now having Watch Face lockups and battery drain

I received the 17.04 update yesterday evening on my Garmin Venu 2 Plus. When I woke up this morning my battery was drained. I charged the Venu 2 Plus some but noticed that nothing as coming on the watch screen,

I then did a reboot by holding down the power button for a while. The Venu 2 Plus powered on but within 10 seconds or so the watch face display froze with no response to buttons or touch.

I then proceeded to do several hard reboots and finally was able to quickly get into settings. I tried to revert back to the default Watch face as well as uninstall via the Connect app on my phone.

I finally did a reset on the watch within the settings prior to it locking up and was then able to uninstall watch faces from the Connect app.

The watch has been running the past few hours how now the issue is now if I browse through watch faces on the Venu 2 Plus it will freeze again even with the default Garmin watch faces. This proves it is not an issue with 3rd party watch faces but an issue with the 17.04 update.

Since owning, I have had 0 issues or lockups until 17.04.

Anyone else having issues using or scrolling through watch faces on their Venu 2 Plus after the 17.04 update?

  • Also I'm experiencing an issue with battery. I already removed everything from IQ, using standard face.

Yesterday I charged the watch fully at 13:20.

    Around 11 I finished workout - indoor, 46 minutes - battery dropped to 76%

    Today at 12:08 - battery has 56%

It's ridiculous. Garmin proposed to send a device to them but no further details what's causing the problem. Newest SW (17.04), already reset to factory settings. Disconnecting, uninstalling Garmin Connect. No improvement.

  • I ended up sending in my watch and getting a certified refurbished one back from Garmin.  So far, the new one is working well regarding battery drain.  Thank you Garmin for sending it out!

I have NOT installed any watch faces via the Connect app yet although I really would like to as there is no default one that shows steps, stairs and battery on the same face.  However, I plan to just wait for a bit until the watch face issue is officially diagnosed and resolved.

After a few weeks of use I did finally have one more watch face lockup while in use.  It was when accessing the menu "watch face, clocks, phone calling" screen after pressing the bottom menu button ("button B").  I just connected a charger and then held the button down and it did reboot for me thankfully.

Hopefully we will have a fix for this soon from Garmin to return stability to the watchface.

  • my recently replaced refurbished unit is draining twice as fast after the update.

  • I am also experiencing an issue with the battery. I started the day today with 94%, have been sitting at my computer most of the day with the exception of a short 12minute walk to get some fresh air, and now I am down to 68%. I am very disappointed since the last update, it has got worse rather that better as I used to get at least 7-8 days depending on how much exercise i have done. I have already opened another comment regarding this, and the only response i got was from someone who had reset their watch and then it was sorted. I have done this several times now, and there has been zero improvement. The sooner they get this fixed the better.
