Venu 2 Plus screen now wakes with a single tap instead of a double tap - Causes screen to turn on unnecessarily

My Venu 2 Plus used to require a double tap of the screen to enable it, but recently a single tap wakes it. This causes the screen to be on a lot more often (drains the battery) and widgets to open accidentally. Anyone else seeing this problem? Any solutions out there? I have always on display turned on, screen lock off and gestures off.

I am finding that the single tap does wake it but only if you tap it within a few seconds of when the face was on. Otherwise it's still requires a double tap. I'm not sure this is new or not.
