Cannot detect any WiFi networks after 12.13 update

New watch and I'm trying to add Wifi connectivity via Connect app from my Android phone.

I go to Device -> General -> Wi-Fi Networks

Prior to the 12.13 update, I saw some Wifi networks listed but didn't set any of them up as I wanted to do the update first.

After the update, I click "Add a Network". Phone briefly says it's searching for networks then flashes "No Wi-Fi networks found." and reconnects to phone. Phone says "No networks found". However, I definitely have several WiFi networks that were visible before--including a few 2.4Ghz ones.

I tried turning off the device and turning it on again. No difference.

Currently, SW version is at 12.13 and Wifi version is at 3.0.

Any advice?

  • Are the names of your WiFi networks hidden? You might have to broadcast the names for Connect to find them.

  • They are not hidden. They were visible before the upgrade too so it was able to see them prior to this update.

  • Please ensure that you meet these requirements: Setting Up Wi-Fi on a Fitness Device. If you continue to have trouble, reach out to your local Garmin support team.

  • Same problem here. Had set up a WiFi network before the update, even listened to some music through my watch, so Garmin telling you to 'check if you meet the requirements' is just a load of bullsh*t. After the update all WiFi functionality stopped working. How this got through testing is a mystery to me. Very disappointed so far in this brand, won't recommend.

  • Same problem here. I can also see that this has been a problem for around 2 years now with older Garmin devices. Very frustrating that this bug is still around. The old Venu got a beta release to resolve the problem, I hope we get the same resolution.

  • Ok I wouldn't exactly call this a fix because it still can't search for available WiFi Networks, but here is what I did. (update: I think this now started working too at the end after the watch had a Wi-Fi software update)

-Install Garmin Express on your computer/laptop, follow the installation instructions until the installation is complete

-Press and hold the bottom button on your Garmin Venu, scroll down to the Settings Cog and press it, scroll down to System and press that, scroll down to reset and press that, then tap "Delete Data and Reset Settings"

-Tap the screen and Confirm with the green tick and allow the Garmin watch to restart (you should see a settings cog with a red icon, then the Garmin triangle when it reboots)

-You should now see a Garmin watch which 3 dots directed to the Garmin Connect icon on your watch. Now connect the device to the usb cable and your computer

-With Garmin Express open on the computer, on your computer, click "Add a device"

-It should say searching but it WILL NOT find anything, that's fine

-We now need to connect using Garmin Connect on the mobile. If for any reason your search on the computer times out during this process, click "Search Again" on your computer

-When you open Garmin Connect on your phone, you should see a "Device not Connected" window pop up in a light grey colour. Tap "Add Device"

    -Tap "Connect It"

    -Allow any prompts

-Match the 6 digit code displayed on your Garmin watch

-When done, tap next and go through the sleep question and the goals stuff as you would normally do

-tap "Sync now" on your phone and finish the setup

Now on the watch, wake it up with the bottom button and tap your Language. The computer will now find your Watch

-On the computer click "Add Device"

-On the computer click Sign in and login with your Garmin Connect credentials

-Once you have set your Device Nickname, Language and Wrist Position click "Next"

-Now we're finally at the good part, the Wi-Fi configuration! On the computer, click "Find Networks"

-It shouldn't find anything, if it does, select your network and enter the password and voila, it should all work. But it really shouldn't so stick with me here

    -Click "Add a Network Manually"

-Now enter your WiFi credentials manually. For me personally, I added my 2.4GHz network first, then my 5GHz network as a backup. You'll most likely be using WPA2 as a Security Type which I use and I can confirm that this works

-When you are done, on your computer click "Save", (Click "Add a New Network if you want to add multiple and repeat the step above)

-You should see your networks displayed with an edit button and and delete button on the right hand side. Don't click either, just click" Next

"Please wait while we finish setting up your device" will show and you should be done!

-Click "Sync" to sync your data and click the blue swirl to check for updates. That should all work now

-You can plug out your Garmin Watch now

    - You might get some software updates on your watch too. Please restart the watch if they ask you, and accept them all. One of them was a WiFi software update and enabled me to see available networks on Garmin Express (the computer app)

-To confirm it works, on your Garmin Watch, press and hold the bottom button, scroll down to the Settings Cog, tap on it, Scroll down to "Connectivity" and tap on that, Tap on "Wi-Fi", tap on "Auto Upload" to turn the slider on (not really related but i did it anyway!)

-Tap "Wi-Fi Sync" and it should search for Wi-Fi networks then it should say Transfer Complete

-Now you can either press the bottom button until you are back at the main watch face or let it sleep then press the back button. Now press and hold the back button, scroll down to the Settings Cog and tap on it, scroll down to "System" and then tap on it, scroll down to "Software Update" and then tap on it

-This should search for your Wi-Fi network/s check for updates and install any needed

-You should either have all your updates installed or go through a few reboots to update them all, but to be honest the Garmin Express app on the computer should have taken care of all your updates, this is just to confirm that your watch can connect on its own to your WiFi network

    - CONGRATULATIONS if this works!

I would like to apologise in advance for how long this is, and for any typos. It's 4am, and I just wanted to get it out there. I tried to make it a guide for beginners too so it suits all, so I've intentionally used the long way to explain everything, so sorry experts :)

I'm a tech nerd so I can understand how frustrating it is that this is not working, so I had to do my bit to share a workaround, even if it meant replying and going through the whole process again at 3am for a hour!

I really hope this works for you all, personally I will not be waiting on a fix, since it could take years, so I'll stick with this and be getting on with my life!
