Can you turn off the touch screen on Venu 2 plus like the Fenix or Epix?

My wife has had the Fenix 5 for several years now.  She is looking to upgrade and thinks the Venu 2 plus is a better fit than the new Fenix 7.  She hates the touch screen though, so I am wondering if you can turn off the touch screen on the Venu 2 like you can do on the Fenix or Epix watches?

  • Hello  Dear Charlie :) ,

You can disable the touch by pressing the "Padlock" symbol on the control screen ...

but in this way - unfortunately -You also lock the Venu 2 Plus buttons ...

I think this is some "half measure" ... to make Your Spouse though a little satisfied .

My Kindest Greetings - Marcin .

  • Thanks.  That’s what she doesn’t want. She wants to be able to use the watch without the touchscreen on.  I guess back to the Fenix 7s

  • Dear Charlie , I

    thought so too , so let's write to @ Garmin-Giovanni , thread "Beta 9.11" ,

is it possible to introduce such a function ... it's a typical programming function

... unless Garmin wants to keep this function for higher models .

Yours most sincerely - Marcin .

  • You can turn off touch on the fenix7 and epix2, but a big difference is those watches also have the 5 buttons of non-touch watches. so you can still do everything you can do with touch.

By default, on them touch is disabled while recording an activity and you can turn it off for the watch face.  You just need to use the buttons to interact.  On the v2/v2+ there is no alternative to touch for many things.

  • the v2/v2+ there is no alternative to touch for many things.

... it's a great pity ... and is the introduction of such a function / utility not expected in the next updates ?

    It's actually a software issue  .

Of course, these two additional buttons that are in the higher / more advanced sports models of Garmin  ,

allow You to move functions on the screen without the need for active touch .

Disabling the touch in Venu 2 Plus makes sense , if we do not want to touch the screen to change settings / functions

or read data, while the activity of the buttons themselves is enough to obtain -

    - at the moment - the required functions / possible changes .

My Best Regards - Marcin .

  • The f7/epix2 are the very first Garmins where you can turn off touch and it's because they also have the 5 buttons as did earlier fenix and most forerunners.

    It's NOT a software issue,

The f7 and epix2 are still 100% usable with touch disabled.  They act just like the fenix5, 5+. and 6 that don't have touch at all.

  • I agree, not a software issue just a missing feature. You don’t need 5 buttons to navigate a watch. They could repurpose the buttons once you turn off the touch screen. 3 buttons is perfect. Up, down, and select. Press and hold for back. It’s something they should consider. Constantly switch on/off touch screen for showers or swimming is a major pain in the butt.

  • You clearly have never used a 5 button Garmin watch,  You'll find at times even 5 buttons isn't enough, and with fr9xx devices as well as Fenix devices, throw in the multi-button/long press options available with hot keys.  Long press down for music on many, long press light/power for controls, long press up for menu, etc

If you don't want touch, get a forerunner (the low end ones are in the venu price range).  Personally, I prefer buttons over touch, though I have a va and a venu for testing.
