@garmin - IQ - Bank details and Security

Dear Team

Via your provided IQ store, I have given no other options but to share my Bank card details with "never heard" payment services in order for to purchase Apps/Faces etc.

For example, if the Developer is from Russia - The PayPal system does not work in  Russia any more hence when it comes to payment I have been directed to previously unheard payment services and I am genuinely concern with the security and  compromising my Bank/card details

This should not be the case Garmin

The money transactions should be - Between me and Garmin, not between me and Tom-***-and Harry. I should be able to pay via Garmin pay and YOU (Garmin) should deal with the developers rather than putting the ball into my court - so if I deal with you directly and  my bank details get compromised, I can hold Garmin responsible.

As you know, for small transactions the card provider is not responsible.

Therefore, can you please connect IQ store to Garmin Pay and bring your services at least little closer to App Store (Apple) or Google Play

Thank you

  • That's a good idea, I'd love to see it work that way.

  • Thank you very much Scott

  • Garmin has always said they wanted to stay out of the whole "pay for apps" business, as it makes them responsible for the quality of the 3rd party apps, handle refunds, complaints, etc.  It's been that way as long as CIQ has been around.

If you don't want to give out your bank info to pay for an app, just stick with the free apps.  Some of the best apps in the store don't cost a dime, and there are tons that are free.

Don't let apps that cost something fool you into thinking they are better than the free apps.

  • Understood. I also don't like the approach many use which ties the license to a specific device. I have three different Garmin watches. I don't feel like I should be required to buy something three times to use it on a different watch.

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts

This is the very "core" of my point - if @Garmin cant trust the developers - then why should we ? and to share our bank details... that's even worse

I think Garmin has to be a "big boy" in the school of Apple/Samsung and behave like one

You are right - even the few paid Apps - I uninstalled all and went with basic Garmin apps

  • All 50 of my apps are free.  Don't confuse "payment required" with quality.  If you don't want to expose your bank info, just don't pay for that app.

I know many of the people at Garmin that are part of the Connect IQ group, and in reality there aren't that many.  Garmin would need to hire a bunch if they got involved in payments.

  • Thanks Jim,

No, I am not so much about Payment = Quality, rather the actual "Process" , my grumpiness is against payment system.

If me as a customer on the guidance of Garmin - decided to Pay for an app - then I should be paying that  to Garmin - not to Tom - D or Harry

Because I have given the "Consent" to share my details including Bank details ONLY to Garmin but not to PayPal , Tom - D**- or Harry

So Garmin should deal with the Developers - That's my core discussion - rather than the "Quality"

    Thanks
