There is a flaw in the swimming app on the Venu 2 Plus. I hope the developers address this given that Garmin markets to triathletes quite a bit.
The issue is how the app determines whether you are swimming or at rest. It only counts you as swimming if your arm is actively moving. The moment you stop moving your arm, it counts you as being at rest. This happens every time I push off of a wall and glide, and even in the middle of a stroke cycle when I am focusing on maximizing distance per stroke by reaching forward after hand entry with the watch hand. This results in very erratic and unrealistic figures such as giving me a pace of 0:30/100 yards (if only that were true). The number of laps/lengths traveled is often also off.
As best as I can tell, the watch doesn't take the overall forward motion into account when determining motion versus rest. And it's not accurate about assessing the change in direction of travel at the end of a lap and start of the next.
In searching the forums, this seems to be an issue with other watches as well:
Please fix this flaw. In comparison, my son's Samsung records the number of laps, stroke per lap, and pace very accurately so I know it can be resolved.
It would also be nice to have the open water feature available for all watches.
Thank you
