After 8.12 update sleep tracking is worse!

I was hoping that after update it would improve sleep tracking which compared to the Fitbit I had is the real weakness of this Venu2plus. It wasn't accurate before, but still acceptable.

Now, after the update, It Is completely busted: it does not detect well when I fall asleep and during the night it marks several awakenings that were absolutely not there. it is as if reading the REM zone an awakening.

Did it happen to you too?

  • Deep sleep still seems off for me, too. It only detects it early within a couple of hours of falling asleep and at most, a second time so I see only 1 or 2 sleep cycles which isn't normal. Everything after the second deep sleep, if it's detected, is light or REM. That said, REM appears to have improved with the update. It's more in line with the Fitibit I used for 2+ years. Garmin's lack of information about how it's "improved" sleep is odd. Same with simply answering the question of whether all trackers are using the same sensors and algorithms b/c some watches appear to track sleep better than others. I'm thinking of returning my Venu 2 Plus, and not b/c the sleep tracking is bad. I know wrist trackers are average at best for sleep, and I actually like the watch overall. It's more the attitude of Garmin when anything is questioned. I have looked through the forums a bit and their responses plus the posts from folks who have contacted Garmin support directly about issues are not encouraging. From lack of helpful information to making people jump through hoops such as needing to submit photos of errors (?!?) prior to doing anything else is baffling. From what I've seen, Garmin support and the fans who defend Garmin no matter what project an Apple "vibe". The tone is often "the problem is you're using your {insert device name here} incorrectly".

  • After a couple of days of testing, I must say that I was wrong in my previous comment. The quality of the sleep tracking is not too much different from before the update.

I think It may be a little bit better but I don't have too much data to be sure of that. I think that the deep sleep and the awake time need a better algorithm because for me most of the time there is too little deep sleep and too much awake time.

But that's for me. I think the sleep tracking quality can vary drastically between people and for one it can be very good but not for others.

Personally, for me, Venu 2 (not Plus) gives me about an average of 70-80% correct REM sleep, not only by total time but also it detects very well the correct time intervals when it starts and ends. I can't say for sure about the accuracy of the other sleep phases.

  • Well, at least start and end times are easily traceable. And Garmin does pretty bad at both, particularly the former.
