After 8.12 update sleep tracking is worse!

I was hoping that after update it would improve sleep tracking which compared to the Fitbit I had is the real weakness of this Venu2plus. It wasn't accurate before, but still acceptable.

Now, after the update, It Is completely busted: it does not detect well when I fall asleep and during the night it marks several awakenings that were absolutely not there. it is as if reading the REM zone an awakening.

Did it happen to you too?

  • That is not good.  Mine did the same last night.  37m awake when I was not awake.  Still no nap-tracking.

Also, the SpO2 shows no information during sleep.

  • How do you know FitBit's sleep tracking is better than Garmin's when you're asleep?

I'm guessing you can wake up during the night and not remember it in the morning.

  • Do you have SpO2 turned on? It's off by default.

  • I think I would know if I was awake for a 37 minutes block. Lol

  • People wake up without remembering it. Maybe it wasn't for 37 minutes, but don't dismiss the possibility you woke up just because you don't think you did.

  • I changed my fitbit because in sport tracking it was really bad (compared to polar H10 band), but on sleep tracking it was damn accurate and was able to perfectly identify the moment of falling asleep and waking up. Before the update, Garmin did it too and the Rem phase was similar, now it gives me every night a few minutes of Rem phase and many wake up minutes, so do you think I would have started to wake up unknowingly from the day I installed 8.15? ??
  • Doesn't matter what I think.

My point is there's no way for you to know which one's more accurate, the old version or the new version, unless you've had your sleep analyzed by professionals. And yes, it's possible you have always woken without knowing and now it's being recorded properly.

  • I think I can confirm that for my Venu 2 (not Plus) after the 8.11 update, which was supposed to bring better sleep.

The way I measure the "quality" of the sleep tracking is by filming myself with a camera during sleep and I can recognize very well the REM sleep phase. I can't recognize the other 3 phases, but the REM phase Is quite distinct.

Before the update, my Venu 2 was showing between 1.5 and 2 hours of REM sleep, which was not perfect, but it was about 70% right most of the time. My analysis of my camera footage shows that I have about 2 hours of REM sleep most of the nights.

After the update, for the last 3 days, I have an average of 1 hour REM according to Venu 2, which is almost 50% less that what was before. That's huge difference after the update.

It may be a coincidence. I hope it is. I will give the watch and the algorithm time to "adapt" for a few days and then I will do deeper analysis, but from the data of the last 3 days right after the update I think that sleep tracking got worse.

  • I'm not sure if it's worse, but I can say that as for my experience 8.12 does not appear to have improved on the sleep cycles tracking. I'm still only getting at most 1 short REM cycle per night, and a smattering of deep sleep.

  • Wow, you really film yourself and then watch the footage back?
