Lily 2 Incorrect run pace - min/km vs min/mile

Hi,

My Lily 2 consistently shows a too fast pace during a run.

It shows 3-4 min/km when in reality (which is also correctly shown in the lap times) I am running about 6-7 min/km.

The GPS and distance work fine and the lap notifications during the run at each km do correctly show 6-7 min lap times.

I have noticed that the difference between my real pace and the shown pace is about 1.6x (6:00 min / 1.6  = 3:45 min), which matches the factor to convert from miles to km:

When I change my watch settings to miles and run at a pace of 6 min/km, the watch shows 6 min/mile.

So my guess is that somewhere it thinks it is measuring in min/mile and tries to convert that into min/km, even though the value is already in min/km.

I changed the unit settings in Garmin Connect for the app and for the device between metric and imperial and back multiple times, but no luck.

It used to work fine up until a few weeks ago, so I think I accidentally changed something in the settings. But I have now reset the device to factory settings twice (once keeping data and once cleaning fully) and reinstalled the app, but no change.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thanks!

  • Since you have GPS, I assume you have a Lily 2 Active and not the older Lily 2.

So my guess is that somewhere it thinks it is measuring in min/mile and tries to convert that into min/km, even though the value is already in min/km.

I don't think this is literally the case, as pace (actually - speed) is internally measured and recorded in metres per second. Units like min/km or min/mi only come into play when displaying pace on the watch or in Connect.

Do you use a footpod or any kind of Garmin chest strap? Footpods and some of the newer Garmin chest straps (like HRM-PRO) can be used as a source for pace and/or distance. Based on the Lily 2 Active manual, it seems that this feature *cannot* be disabled [unlike other watches which allow you to choose whether to use pace/distance from footpod/chest strap]

What you're seeing could be explained by your watch deciding to use GPS for distance [and lap/total average pace] but a chest strap / footpod for instant pace.

    Ways to possibly solve this:

    - if you are using an HRM-PRO chest strap, follow this procedure (as per the manual):

    > If automatic and manual calibrations don't seem accurate, go to the sensor settings, and select HRM Pace & Distance > Reset Calibration Data.

    - if you are using a footpod, stop using it :/

You could also look in the sensor menu and see if there actually is an option to disable pace/distance from the footpod or chest strap.

Here's a video which shows how to access the sensor menu:  https://youtu.be/ioBRrdmYjew?t=280

Unfortunately it doesn't show the part of menu where you actually select an HRM or footpod, so we could see if it has the options to enable distance/pace from the sensor.

If you're not using either a foot pod or HRM-PRO, then I would have to guess you're seeing a bug in the watch and you should contact support: https://support.garmin.com/ or [email protected]
