Recovery Time increases drastically overnight when using Garmin Index Sleep

Hi,

since I started using the Garmin Index Sleep device, I get good and detailed sleep data – but there is a strange side effect:

  • Every morning after syncing, my recovery time jumps drastically, usually above 60 hours.
  • For example: before going to bed, my Fenix 8 shows a recovery time of around 47 hours. After waking up and syncing, the recovery time suddenly increases to 60+ hours.
  • This behavior causes a major problem: my Garmin Coach Triathlon training plan sessions are cancelled every morning because the watch thinks I am not recovered.

This only started happening after I connected and used the Garmin Index Sleep.

My question: Is this issue caused by the Fenix 8 firmware or by the Garmin Index Sleep firmware?

Thanks in advance for clarification or troubleshooting steps.

  • started a ticket with all informations with German Support!

  • Now the recovery time jumps to 83 hours after this night, but sleep score is 94

  • Sorry, I’m getting a Sleep Score of 99, but my Recovery Time keeps increasing all the time. Garmin, when you release a new product, please make sure it actually works!

  • I'm the same. For example, went to bed with 19 hours, woke up with 30! after a good nights sleep, score of 80! I have an Epix Pro, so its not just a Fenix 8 issue.

I've raised this with Support, sent all pictures and data months ago, got the usual 'We can't give you a timescale" email.

It's the same with heart rate, the overnight data doesn't transfer to HR graph on device. The seven day average is right, only if you wear the ISM for seven days in a row, if you wear your device for a night instead, it throws the figure out.

For me the ISM has turned out to be a bad buy. Issues aren't being addressed. The only way to get correct'ish data is to use one device. TrueUp doesn't work.

I'll be selling mine and going back to not wearing anything at night.

  • It would be nice to get a definitive answer from someone who knows at Garmin to the following questions;

    • Should Recovery Time sync across devices via TrueUp??
    • What effect does Recovery Time have on other metrics?? For example 'Suggested Workouts' and 'Training Readiness' especially if its wrong on your primary device!
  • That is too bad about the frustrating experience you are having with the ISM.  Since the most recent firmware updates, and following the guidance given, I have been having pretty good success with the ISM.  My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that the ISM seems to only hold a charge for five or six days.  Ideally was I hoping the ISM would hold a charge for seven or eight days.  OH well.
