Data seems too good?

I have been collecting sleep data with my Fenix 7X Pro for long enough to have a very good idea of what it will look like based on how I feel.  That being said I find myself questioning the data from the Index after wearing it several nights.

For example, the Index has never shown my stress level over 25 (in the yellow), even when putting it on when my stress is above 25 according to the watch it instantly dropped down to blue levels.  This leads it to calculate that my body battery increases and gets to 100 after only a few hours it seems.  Most telling is a night where I went to sleep after having a few drinks, which normally leads to a lag time of at least 1-2 hours before my stress will drop to blue levels, however the Index immediately showed me as in the blue.

Has anyone else noticed such a trend, could this be related to me not having it positioned correctly or something else?

  • I’ve noticed that. The immediate drop to blue when putting the index on. I’ve never had such high body battery scores. But I’m the opposite, I’ve always thought the watch reads too high, but makes no sense that there’s an instant drop. Why not try putting the index on for a short period then go back to the watch, see if it jumps back up again.

Also to add, since I started with the ISM, (5 nights) ‘Recent Stress’ has disappeared from ‘Training Readiness’. Perhaps there’s a link between the two?

  • My body battery has never reached 100 in a while , now with sleep index it’s 100  the past 4 days…. something is definitely not right..

  • I have the same experience. Marq gen 1 (fenix 6) gives a 70 / 80 score on average. Since wearing the sleep index its 90+ even woth alcohol.

  • I've had the sleep monitor for 3 nights. Reached 100% BB at 5:15, 3:15 & 2:30. Have never reached 100% 3 days in a row; and never that early.

My SI stress level are around 5 vs my fenix 8 at the 15-20 range at night.

I don't feel that I'm sleeping any better, so would say the SI is not calculating things correct.

    Garmin?

  • After 7 days of data I’ve looked back and the ISM only picked up a tiny amount of ‘Stress’ on the first 2 nights. The last 5 nights has all been ‘Rest’ (blue). This also ties in with when ‘Recent Stress’ disappeared from ‘Training Readiness’ (5 days ago)

  • I guess we will have to await a fair amount of patching cycles like with the Fenix 8 series Cry

  • On a positive note, its quite a simple device with only a handful of features, so a few bug fixes 'should' sort it Pray tone2

  • Same here only 2 nights with the device and I do feel the band is really optiimitics in terms of HRV / Stress levels.

It's the same kind of feeling with other new Garmin devices, though a bit stronger with the ISM. But I remember that when I factory reset a Fenix watch, it tend to give me more blue stress levels in the first few days, like some sort of calibration is happening at the beginning.

  • The device still needs some fine tuning and software updates. The Training Readiness doesn’t show HRV status (in the Connect App), even though overnight HRV is recorded, and sometimes the Recent Stress data is missing too. Also, in my Venu X1, the Training Readiness widget offers a much more comprehensive experience not only by color coding each Contributors/Factors for the Training Readiness score but also each of the factors can be clicked to explore trends or additional info. Interestingly, the HRV Status shows Not Enough Data in my Venu X1 widget (just like in the Connect App) but clicking on it shows the previous night HRV data and the 7-Day Avg. In the next screen (scrolling down in the HRV Status factor) there is a message saying "Determining Baseline. Wear for 3 more weeks.". This message and widget functionality is completely absent in the Connect App. Last night, for comparison purposes, I slept with the UH ring and the ISM. The UH ring matched and produced data and an index score that matched how I actually felt, but the ISM was way off and didn’t reflect my sleep experience at all.

Latency data is also missing, and the sleep metrics should give more context — for example, using small up and down arrows (red, green or yellow for No Change) to show, as an example, whether Restless Moments, RHR, or other values are higher or lower compared to yesterday or the 7-day average. Just knowing my RHR was 52 for the night doesn’t really tell me much.

Also, there’s a textbox for notes at the bottom of the Sleep Score screen. It might be more useful if those notes were searchable TAGS shown at the top. That way, you could easily look up nights when, for example, you had a heavy meal and see how it affected your sleep scores.

  • I have noticed that the sleep score data is way off and overstated. An example of this is with the sleep phases, where it does not pick up on the duration of `awake` phases correctly. I woke up at 3am last night, could not get back to sleep until about 4:30, however the device recorded only 5 min.'s of awake time overnight in total. My fenix 7 seemed to pick these types of events with no issue.
