It would be an insta buy for me if not for the missing features

I was interested in getting this since both my wrists are busted from wearing a watch 24/7 and I had to stop doing that.

But the fact that it does not track during the day is a no go. There are many days when I don't need a watch and want to rest my wrists but I'd still appreciate basic stats like calorie and step counting. The sleep monitor has optical HR sensor and probably accelerometer as well so it could do this if not for arbitrary design decision. I wouldn't even mind having to charge it more often.

Garmin please reconsider. Index should be our 'secondary wearable'. Track everything it can as long as we wear it and switch to the watch once we put it on.

  • We understand that there are a variety of opinions and desires for different types of devices, and some of our products will not fit all needs of a given customer. The Index Sleep Monitor was designed and purpose-built to be a sleep tracker and is not meant to be worn 24/7 as it is unable to replace an all-day activity tracker.
