Index 2 Scale not connecting to WIFI

Not only does it not connect to wifi but it says that there are "no networks found" even though I live in an apartment complex so there should be at least 10 wifi connections detected. Honestly if I could at least use the scale to find out my weight and bodyfat % I would be less annoyed but I can't even do that! It's stuck at the stupid pairing mode. The materials state that I wouldn't be able to use all the features without wifi but it didn't say that I would not be able to use it all! It's only been a day but I'm tired of dealing with this. There are so many forum posts of people not being able to connect to wifi with very few useable responses. Any tips on connecting? I've already been on the phone with support so solutions involving forgetting the scale and reconnecting don't work. They told me that it might be that my wifi uses 5ghz but it's actually dual band and I have other devices that use 2.4 ghz connected. It's not a WEP router either. Also is there a way to use this thing without wifi? If not, why don't they say that?! My fitbit still works when it's not connected to my phone!
