After SW 3.00 - No Networks Found / Invalid Password / Blinking WiFi icon + Red X when syncing

Hello,

yesterday my index S2 upgraded to firmware 3.00.

Today I saw that:

User settings were not synced, which means that no usernames are on the scale, only empty persons with question marks.

Date and Time settings are also not synced and do not change after several measurements. (I switched to 24h in the app)

I did:

1) Factory reset

2) removed the scale from Garmin web interface and from the Garmin app

3) Re-attached the scale again via Garmin app (and yes, I of course removed indexS2 from bluetooth settings)

4) Did 2) and 3) several times

5) Tried to install the firmware again via the manual process. Did not work since 3.00 is already on the scale...

6) Deleted the WLAN connection and attached it again

7) Switched to another WLAN

4) Replaced the batteries and did 1), 2) 3), 6) again.

Nothing helped. the scale still does not show the user(s) I attached to the Garmin app and does not sync weight.

And I also noticed that after trying to sync a red X appears in the upper left corner of the scale for a short time.

Any hints?

Regards Uli

  • Then Garmin should quickly come up with a solution for me.

  • I had this same problem, no WiFi connection after update to 3.00.00. I was able to resolve it. I changed the settings on my Modem/router to support 802.11b. It had been set to only support 802.11 g/n, I changed it to 802.11 b/g/n. my scale has been able to connect and work as before since making this change. This protocol is exclusive to 2.4 GHz.

How to do this will be different for every router. I use an Arris SBG8300. Apparently the 802.11 g/n setting was the default out of the box since I did not change it. So you will have to sort out how to change it on yours.

FWIW 802.11b is the oldest and slowest WiFi protocol to my understanding. I can't fathom why Garmin would have their 'Newest' software/firmware revert to that protocol exclusively since it clearly worked on the newer/faster protocols with the earlier software. But they did.

I own 7 other Garmin products. They have all worked perfectly (so far). I have gone through numerous software, firmware and map updates over years of use and all has gone flawlessly. I find it odd and disappointing that they have made such a mess in updating this really expensive scale's software. I hope it's limited to this one product and they get back on track soon.

  • Sadly the problem is not that simple. At least I already tried it, without success, so it seems,  you are lucky

  • With the Connect App it must be possible with Bluetooth. I hope

  • What Setting to do you have WPA (WPA, WPA2 or WPA3) ?

  • I did the same thing must be a month ago now, nope its not luck.. It works.. I suspect allot of the malcontents on here that are getting the pitch forks out could probably do the same thing and get the scales working, Thing is though most users on here do not or will not mess with their routers and want Garmin to implement a fix/resolve the issue. Which is fair, but I suspect the delay is that Garmin trying to figure out a fix and or workaround while the device is not capable of connecting to a network.. This one has Garmin cornered I think.. They know the issue and how to resolve it, that I'm sure of, its getting that on devices is the issue here..

  • As I mentioned earlier in one comment, I tried many different routers (network provider's and own too), hotspots (from notebooks, mobile phones available for me). All of them with different combination of settings, including  11bg, 11bgn, 11gnax, different bandwidth, transmit power, manual channels, enable/disable wps etc. maybe I have already set everything that can be set on them. And yes, still not working, so please don't say I am just sitting here and waiting for garmin without try to do my best because slowly, the only thing I haven't tried is to pick up the device and start walking down the street with the scale and continuously search for wifi connections. (Ok, my fault to not going to buy a new iphone because with them it worked for someones)

This topic older than one month, one month wasn't enough to solve a bug? Than is the ticket somewhere at the bottom of their bakclog?
