After SW 3.00 - No Networks Found / Invalid Password / Blinking WiFi icon + Red X when syncing

Hello,

yesterday my index S2 upgraded to firmware 3.00.

Today I saw that:

User settings were not synced, which means that no usernames are on the scale, only empty persons with question marks.

Date and Time settings are also not synced and do not change after several measurements. (I switched to 24h in the app)

I did:

1) Factory reset

2) removed the scale from Garmin web interface and from the Garmin app

3) Re-attached the scale again via Garmin app (and yes, I of course removed indexS2 from bluetooth settings)

4) Did 2) and 3) several times

5) Tried to install the firmware again via the manual process. Did not work since 3.00 is already on the scale...

6) Deleted the WLAN connection and attached it again

7) Switched to another WLAN

4) Replaced the batteries and did 1), 2) 3), 6) again.

Nothing helped. the scale still does not show the user(s) I attached to the Garmin app and does not sync weight.

And I also noticed that after trying to sync a red X appears in the upper left corner of the scale for a short time.

Any hints?

Regards Uli

  • I tried turning off 5Ghz, moving channels, WPA2, WPA3, setting up phone  as a hotsopt. All failed. Worked enforcing legacy 802.11b rates. Below is a quote from OpenWRT. It hast to be ticked on in order to work with scale. Garmin, we have 2023 here! Why you are going backwards? This scale used to work on more recent WiFi standards.

    Allow legacy 802.11b rates
Legacy or badly behaving devices may require legacy 802.11b rates to interoperate. Airtime efficiency may be significantly reduced where these are used. It is recommended to not allow 802.11b rates where possible.
  • Hi if this is on your home wifi it wont work.
try using 2.4 only on your mobile phones hotspot mode and that should get you online.

    Many thanks

  • I've got it to work on my home network after changing some settings, I've informed Garmin support..

  • I retract this. While it did sync the first time, it does not sync, even while connected to a 2.4 gHz wifi network. It IS able to actually take the measurement and show all the calculated info, but no weather is showing up and the data is not syncing to Garmin Connect. I'm back to having a not-smart scale.

  • Finally makes some sense. Thought I was going mad. Tried every kind of reset possible after updating to version 3. Definitely the Garmin update as WiFi protocols are fine. I was able to connect using my phone as a hotspot but otherwise I now have a dumb scale. Garmin get your act together please. Can you imagine the mess the world will get into if a simple scale can't connect to WiFi.why was this not tested by some averagely intelligent technician. Good grief. Send me the code I'll do it myself!

  • Glad to hear this is being looked into. Exactly the same issue. Tried Garmin support to no avail.

  • - Not using WEP. Using a pure 2.4GHz b/g/n SSID on a SFR provided AP (France)

    - Scale worked perfectly exactly until it was updated to 3.0 today, then failed as soon as it booted back up into 3.0 after the update being applied.

    - Tried factory resetting settings. Now it doesn't list _any_ wifi when scanning.

    - Tried adding a WiFi network manually. It fails to join and test.

    - Tried manual updating as specified in "Why Doesn't My Index S2 Connect to Wi-Fi After a Software Update?". This did not work: as indicated there is a gear icon flashing (in the bottom left) but it never goes to a part where there is a WiFi sync icon in the top left. Instead the scale appears to merely shut down. Waking it up has it show the usual new setup/pairing process, which leads back to no wifi when scanning and complete failure to join any manually specified AP, whatever the settings (b/g/n, 2.4 only, open or WPA2, AES or TKIP)

    - After that, the app is locked in the device onboarding since it can't join any WiFi, and the only recourse is to kill the app

    - When the app is restarted the scale shows up in the device list, and can be further configured without going through device onboarding. Previously entered WiFi are listed in the app once one presses reset on the scale to enter pairing mode, but tests will always fail with "something went wrong".

    - Also tried phone sharing (iPhone) but that failed in the same way.

    - In fact, WiFi appears to be entirely dead.

My most immediate concern is that, provided there is a new release with a fix someday (or a way to roll back to the previous firmware), unless the scale can update its firmware over Bluetooth it's going to be a slab of dead glass as it cannot update via WiFi given that WiFi appears to be thoroughly dead.

  • Same issue here. Scale worked beautifully until I followed the directions to update as per the email. Now it won't connect to wifi and tells me that the password is wrong. Changed batteries. I am not using WEP. Connected to another wifi network, but it still didn't work. There needs to be a method to roll back the update.

  • Just a follow up that a week later everything is still working fine for my wife an I. Looking forward to a permanent fix.

  • It is the same problem here, I already contacted Garmin Support and troubleshot many things that are mentioned by other users here. The hotspot solution works for me, until Garmin resolves this issue. I don't know how to feel after knowing that many other users have been experiencing exactly the same issue and how Garmin can release a software version without a proper check.

Anyway, damaged is done, I hope for a fast resolution.
