After SW 3.00 - No Networks Found / Invalid Password / Blinking WiFi icon + Red X when syncing

Hello,

yesterday my index S2 upgraded to firmware 3.00.

Today I saw that:

User settings were not synced, which means that no usernames are on the scale, only empty persons with question marks.

Date and Time settings are also not synced and do not change after several measurements. (I switched to 24h in the app)

I did:

1) Factory reset

2) removed the scale from Garmin web interface and from the Garmin app

3) Re-attached the scale again via Garmin app (and yes, I of course removed indexS2 from bluetooth settings)

4) Did 2) and 3) several times

5) Tried to install the firmware again via the manual process. Did not work since 3.00 is already on the scale...

6) Deleted the WLAN connection and attached it again

7) Switched to another WLAN

4) Replaced the batteries and did 1), 2) 3), 6) again.

Nothing helped. the scale still does not show the user(s) I attached to the Garmin app and does not sync weight.

And I also noticed that after trying to sync a red X appears in the upper left corner of the scale for a short time.

Any hints?

Regards Uli

  • I had same problem using my netgear orbi. Solved it by temporary use my phone as hotspot and connect the index s2 to that wifi network.

  • Still having the same issue after updating to V3 at the weekend, it will find my network, but the scale fails to connect to it, am using the latest Linksys Velop Mesh Router and nodes that are all running the latest software. Have tried a full reset and still no luck in connecting.

  • Hello,

I have the same issue since firmware update 3.00

The scale seems to work well in itself but wifi blinking and i then realized data hasn't been synced since update. The connected device list of my ISP router doesn't show the Index.

I tried to update the wifi password and reset the scale without success. Is there a solution coming. How will we able to update the software if wifi is broken?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

I have the same issue since firmware update 3.00. My wifi router is my ISP router (Freebox Pop)

The scale seems to work well in itself but wifi blinking and i then realized data hasn't been synced since update end of January.

I tried to update the wifi password, forget the wifi network and add again, reset the scale without success. The scale is able to see wifi network and to connect to it because i can test the connection in Garmin Connect app. But it seems it won't succesfully connect again to wifi to sync data.

I checked at my router's device list on 2,4Ghz network. The device appears and authenticates apparently well when i update the wifi password or add again the wifi network (from GC app) but disappears right after a second. And it never appears when the scale tries to sync data.

So i'm not sure the issue is a problem of authentication, at least in my case

Is there a solution coming. How will we able to update the software if wifi link is broken?

    Thanks

TEMPORARY FIX TILL GARMIN RESOLVE THE ISSUE:
    =================================================
For those that need your scales urgently try to setup a hotspot on your mobile phone and enable it maybe once a week to sync data over, alternatively if you wish to sync do this daily.

Make sure when you setup the hotspot it is setting it up on the 2.4Ghz band and not 5Ghz and that you are using WPA2 as it may not work otherwise.

At the moment till Garmin resolve the bug thats the only way I've found to get online and has repeatedly worked for the last few days every single time.

For those also worried about being able to get the "new update/fix" you could also do that in the same way without having to remove any of your existing wifi networks from your scale as it can save up to 7.

    Hope that helps someone :)

  • I configured my Wi-Fi network to only use the 2.4 and it’s still did not work.

  • Thanks, however this workaround has been suggested a few times already in the thread,  I have been able to get a workaround by changing the settings on my own router, however might not work for everyone.. Garmin will need to either offer a new firmware or suggest settings to peoples routers to make this work.

  • My scale is still on FW 2.08.00. I cannot connect it to any network, including phone hotspot on 2.4GHz using WPA2 (same phone as Garmin app). No networks are detected and it cannot connect if I manually configure. Purchased my  index s2 scale in June 2021 and it lost wifi in March 2022, although I only noticed this when I came to update to the latest firmware. I have removed the scale from the garmin app and tried to add it back multiple times but it always fails when trying to add a wifi network.

    In response to Garmin's questions:
    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Spain

I have wasted far too much time on this now and am giving up until I can get an official response from Garmin on what to do or try next. I think the wifi capability in the scale is broken, and should have noticed this back in March when it should still have been under guarantee (what is the guarantee period for the S2?).
