After SW 3.00 - No Networks Found / Invalid Password / Blinking WiFi icon + Red X when syncing

Hello,

yesterday my index S2 upgraded to firmware 3.00.

Today I saw that:

User settings were not synced, which means that no usernames are on the scale, only empty persons with question marks.

Date and Time settings are also not synced and do not change after several measurements. (I switched to 24h in the app)

I did:

1) Factory reset

2) removed the scale from Garmin web interface and from the Garmin app

3) Re-attached the scale again via Garmin app (and yes, I of course removed indexS2 from bluetooth settings)

4) Did 2) and 3) several times

5) Tried to install the firmware again via the manual process. Did not work since 3.00 is already on the scale...

6) Deleted the WLAN connection and attached it again

7) Switched to another WLAN

4) Replaced the batteries and did 1), 2) 3), 6) again.

Nothing helped. the scale still does not show the user(s) I attached to the Garmin app and does not sync weight.

And I also noticed that after trying to sync a red X appears in the upper left corner of the scale for a short time.

Any hints?

Regards Uli

  • Right now I have a big piece of white glass and plastic that serves no function. It won't connect via wifi or iPhone hotspot. In Garmin Connect I only see a grey circle with a question mark next to it under devices. Please help - this shouldn't be this difficult.

  • same here. Incorrect password. Down this scale is a dumb scale with a fancy screen. no body fat info.. just stright weight only.

  • Similar issues with mine after update. Seems to keep forgetting or dropping my wifi network. Reset protocol works for a sec, will update my connect then immediately forget the network again. Seems like the update has bugs.

  • Garmin should have a more open error culture in my view.
The update was announced by mail. The number of customers who are now on the weekend to implement the update is certainly not small.

Many will then have a dust collector standing around and are annoyed.
Why doesn't Garmin just send an email asking to wait for a new update?
Was the possibility to load the Udate already blocked?

  • +1 Especially when you are not that much into the technical background to search for sth like this thread or try to debug stuff yourself but just wake up once morning after a auto-update and suddenly your scale is now near to useless/broken without you remembering doing anything...that...well is an even worse feeling than in our case at least knowing what all the chaos is about.

  • This morning it works again - i Had done nothing

  • I also find it kind of weird that some report, that new, fresh batteries seem to fix the issue?!

When the scale turns on and weighs in general...how can the batteries affect the ability for obtaining an IP?^^
I mean...yeah...maybe when voltage drops Bugs may appear but...that seems weird though^^

  • As I mentioned earlier, I think it's a problem with the DHCP and an already reserved IP for the S2. When your router frees the IP again, depending on the set lease time, the S2 can acquire a new one and works again.

  • Yes now it doesn`t Work again

    I think subraid ist right.

  • Exact same issue as the original report on a brand new Index S2.

Unit connects to WiFi and DHCP works, but it first spends some time querying three NTP servers (only one is succesful).

Then it establishes a HTTP session with a Garmin service, but closes the session right after the TLS handshake. Finally, the display on the weight turns off after quick flash of the red X in the corner.

Similar behavior during initial setup after factory reset as during sync attempt after weighing.

I saved full network packet captures (pcap format). Happy to share with Garmin or anyone else who wants to analyze.
