After SW 3.00 - No Networks Found / Invalid Password / Blinking WiFi icon + Red X when syncing

Hello,

yesterday my index S2 upgraded to firmware 3.00.

Today I saw that:

User settings were not synced, which means that no usernames are on the scale, only empty persons with question marks.

Date and Time settings are also not synced and do not change after several measurements. (I switched to 24h in the app)

I did:

1) Factory reset

2) removed the scale from Garmin web interface and from the Garmin app

3) Re-attached the scale again via Garmin app (and yes, I of course removed indexS2 from bluetooth settings)

4) Did 2) and 3) several times

5) Tried to install the firmware again via the manual process. Did not work since 3.00 is already on the scale...

6) Deleted the WLAN connection and attached it again

7) Switched to another WLAN

4) Replaced the batteries and did 1), 2) 3), 6) again.

Nothing helped. the scale still does not show the user(s) I attached to the Garmin app and does not sync weight.

And I also noticed that after trying to sync a red X appears in the upper left corner of the scale for a short time.

Any hints?

Regards Uli

  • Today I was successful with my scale.
Yesterday I played a little bit around with the scale and Connect (stated the setup again and other thing)... Still didn't work and I got to bed.
Tested it today and now it works....

  • Same Problem here - Update overnight on 3.00 - I can see connect on router overview - but no Sync of data

  • I have successfully updated my scale from v2.08 to v3.0 with the following steps:

    1. created a new Wifi with the following settings:

    name with six characters
no password (i.e. Security Protocol = open)
    Wifi band = 2.4 GHz
MAC Address Filter = enabled and scale MAC-address added as to "Allow List"

    2. Then connected via GarminConnect-app to the device and selected the new Wifi

    3. The update process started after a few seconds and took around eight minutes.

My previous connection with firmware v2.08 was WPA2-secured. After the update I switched back to WPA2 but connection to previous Wifi was not possible.

The scale is now connected to Wifi with no security protocol, means with no password set, but syncing is possible without issues.

  • Thanks for this information - but for me, it is no solution to use the scale without network security!

  • I have already tested on FRITZ!Box a wifi without encryption.

    No success.
    no sync possible.

Doing the update to 3.00 was not the problem.

    That ran without any problems.

The problem is a sync afterwards.

  • Hello all,

We have other reports of this and are currently investigating.  If you are affected by this disruption, please be sure to follow steps in Manually Updating Software on the Index S2 Smart Scale and confirm that you are not using a WEP security setup on your Wi-Fi network, which is discussed here:

Why Doesn't My Index S2 Connect to Wi-Fi After a Software Update?

If you are still experiencing this after following steps in the FAQ above to update AND you are running a supported security format, stay tuned here for any developments, as we will be updating this thread when we have any news to share.

  • I don't know, who changed the title of my original post but in my case it was BEFORE the 3.00 software update. My scale still runs on FW 2.08.00!

    We will have an exchange.

  • Hello all,

For those of you who are active in this thread and experiencing this disruption, can you confirm that you were able to successfully set up a Wi-Fi network, that you are not seeing any red error indicator when viewing the 'Garmin Devices' screen in your Garmin Connect mobile app, but that you are not able to sync any data to your Garmin Connect account using the traditional Wi-Fi sync with your home Wi-Fi network?

  • Yes, that is sadly exactly what happens.

My FritzBox 7590 (latest Software) setup worked fine until yesterday with the scale.

No it can be setup via GarminConnect but Sync fails.

Thankfully, at least a Hotspot via my Cellphone works, so at least I would be able to do some emergency FW update.

    Nontheless very unpleasant experience...

  • Mine as well - I found that my scale s2 had lost its wifi connection back in March when I went to do the update and now cannot connect to any of my networks. Of course, I couldn't update as there was no wifi connection...
