About to buy the Index S2 Smart Scale but wondering if a new one will be launched anytime soon?

The ignorance of the S2's problems by Garmin is appalling.
My opinion and my experience with the S2? Plus on suggestions for improvement?
TLDR: If you want the weight integrated into the GC, you have…
Well don’t buy the S2 then. Here’s my day to day readings from the S2. 24% down to 17% overnight. My body fat is actually 14%.
Don’t do it, it’s a product that doesn’t work as intended. It does weight well but every other measurement is poor and not accurate. Garmin has said they will fix it but has done nothing…
Damn. OK, will look into some other brands then I guess.
My Withings "Body" Wi-Fi scale is the most simple, dependable, and reliable piece of electronic kit I've ever owned. I bought a new one on sale and gave my old one to a friend a few years ago. Both my new one, and the old one at my friends house still reliably function. Consider not worrying about other metrics from your scale. For ~$40 USD you can have your weight stored and graphed and sync'd to any other ecosystem you have.
I wonder if Garmin-Kevin will ever provide an update.

TLDR: If you want the weight integrated into the GC, you have no choice anyway. Unfortunately I am not happy with the quality or Garmin's approach. The scale performs as well or a little worse than regular "smart" scales at a quarter of the price, and the only extra it offers is the transfer of readings to the GC. There is no synchronisation or use of user data - see below.
I've been wearing a Garmin watch 24/7 for about 3 years, so having a Garmin scale was the next obvious step. When the official information about the S2 appeared, I immediately placed a pre-order with an official Czech retailer.
I work in industrial programming, automation and database, and I can imagine I would be thrilled to get as much data as Garmin has from a customer (or employer), many users, and be able to work on features and their various dependencies. That's why I don't understand why Garmin is letting the data lie and no one seems to be working on the S2 anymore, or is demotivated to work and innovate like I was when I quit my job and the company took my bonus for no further reason :D
At least two points for improvement, maybe for the next generation? Considering that even after a year I am able to get my weight updated, I don't believe in improving the situation with S2. But I'm still cautiously optimistic. S3 could be great, I just think I'll wait for experience and order at least half a year after release :D
1) Why on earth do I have to enter some number from 1 to 10 when setting the scale? You know absolutely everything about me, you know if I've been running regularly for the last year, even that I've started going to the gym and how many kg I can lift. Even from the weight alone and this activity data you can already put together a pretty decent estimate of body composition. So why do I need to calculate if I fit category 6 or rather 7? I mean, you've been following me for years and you know that last week it might have been 7.166 and this week it's 6.87. Just like you know if I drank 12 beers last night, slept poorly, and am dehydrated at the weigh-in.
You can use all that, so why is the scale so stupid?
2) You have a lot of users, active athletes, or people who like numbers, accurate graphs, and don't look at money. I'd be willing, and I believe a lot of others would too, for example, to go to a sports doctor twice a year to get accurately weighed, calibrated, and have their body composition measured with a professional device with 4 electrodes for each limb. And I would give you this data. For the calibration of your scale and for the benefit of many others. If only 1% of scale owners did this you would have good quality data from a wide range of users, in conjunction with their activities, see previous point, and the overall accuracy for the average user must be an order of magnitude better.
Just admit that your product is not perfect and allow the users themselves to help you with it.
How hard can it be?
Excuse my English, I usually use technical terms rather than similar communication :)
I wonder if Garmin-Kevin will ever provide an update.
Not sure. Why don't you ask him?
I can relate to your situation. Did you get an S2 in the end, or are you still holding out?
I ended up buying the Withings Body Scan. Costs £400 but well worth it. Shame about the Garmin... it would've synced up well with the Garmin app.
Thanks everyone for your comments. Appreciated your views and guidance.
then read the user problems of Withings Body Scan!
Lol, some people find problems with everything! I haven't found any so far... but I'll keep a look-out!
I wanted to buy one, reading all the problems made me sick.
Now I bought an S2 again updated to new firmware and did a Dexa scan, works perfectly
