Several showstopper issues with Index S2 Smart Scale

I received my scale yesterday.  Here are my issues:

1. After turning on and connecting to Wifi, the scale showed a gear icon and a progress bar.  No words or explanation.  I assume this was a firmware update.

2. Directions say "tap" the scale.  Tapping is subjective, but in my book it's not a tap.  I have to give it a light stomp.  Does anyone have this experience?

3. My weight is about 10lbs off.  I am comparing myself to what I weighed at the doctors office, and on my other "dumb" scale very recently.  

4. I cannot add my wife to the scale. I sent her a text with a link to her iPhone.  She clicked the link and downloaded the app.  After installing, the app did not prompt her to connect.  So she clicked the link from the text again, and this time there was a prompt to connect to me, but when pressing the "Connect" button the app stated "Network error".  Our Wifi was up and running.
