So...the simple question.....is it worth buying if I already have a Tanita?

I have a Tanita BC-1000 which uses ANT+ for it's connection.

Frankly I don't rely on the minutiae detail, but do weigh myself every day and find it a useful 'tracking' resource rather then something I obsess about.

Unfortunately the latest series of Samsung phones have stopped supporting ANT+ as a feature, thus I may need to change sometime in the next year, sell the Tanita and upgrade my scale.

Having read here that the Garmin S2 scale seems to be quite drastically off on certain measurements, but more importantly seems to be getting little programming love, I'm hesitant to switch to a platform that I may not be able to rely on going forward.

I love my Garmin Pro Solar watch and it's helped me lose a load of weight over the last two years, but I'm really cautious about paying much dinero for a scale that doesn't seem to match the hype when I have a good working solution right now.

Thoughts?  Advice?  Pointers?

  • Index S2 gives only weight. Other metrics are made up. If you have Tanita never buy Garmin!

There are a lot of topics on fat % issue. Just read them

  • if you want to track weight only and use garmin connect for this then the index scale is the solution (albeit an expensive one)

if you want to track body fat, water, muscle etc then forget about it.

wehther you should lock yourself into the garmin platform for tracking health and activity details, well thats where i'm at and given the shambles of this scale i'd recommend against it
