Improved wifi connectivity?

I have a Garmin Index S1.  I recently upgraded my wifi at home to an Asus ZenWifi mesh system, which I'm very happy with.  It does provide a 2.4 Ghz connection, so no problems there, but I am completely unable to get my S1 to connect.  I tried to search the web for possible solutions, and it seems like the S1 does struggle with a number of routers.

the problems are pretty myriad -- In my fumbling around, I tried removing the device from connect appon my Galaxy S10, but wasn't able to re-add it (it would get stuck downloading a file at some point).  It worked when I used a tablet or my wife's S10 (not a plus)...

Still, whatever device I'm working on it fails when it gets to the point of configuring the wifi connection.  My new wifi shows up when looking for a list of connections, but when I put in the password it looks like it's trying to connect but eventually times out and give the message "It's taking longer than expected to find XXX.  Please try again".  I've tried mulitple times.  Signal strength is great.

I've contacted customer support, but I'm assuming that it's a problem with the Index S1 using old-standards based wifi chips.  The new router provides a Wifi 6 signal, and it mentions that some older devices might have trouble connecting...

So my question is:  Have the wifi connectivity issues been improved with the S2?  Is upgrading a likekly path to solving my issue?

  • I had a similar issue and it turned out to be that my WiFi password was too long for both my Garmin F6 Watch and Index S2 Scale.

If you've not already resolved your issue, double-check that your WiFi password length.
