Body Fat% is way off

Body Fat% is double what other scales and meters (Omron) even after changing activity level to 10.

  • I got my replacement scale. Same issue. The body fat is literally double. Its an algorithm issue. Ive been sending info to Garmin, I suggest everyone do the same. The reality is that most people that buy these things have no idea what their actual body fat is or have other scales - like a lot of us here - to compare. I sent these guys pics and data from my Tanita Iron Man and Withings. Both gave me same reading and Garmin was just double. Hopefully they will fix.

  • "Its an algorithm issue" for me yes the problem is software and algorithm, I don´t think the issue is hardware, my opinion, but if this is a hardware problem Garmin have a big problem to change all the scales JoyJoy

  • Same issue - I replaced my trusted Withings with 11% (which is accurate) and with S2 and activity level 10 I see 20%

It hope Garmin should fix this issue with next firmware update

  • Just tried my new s2. Same issue here. My body fat is 9%, my Fitbit scale has it at 8.8%, garmin at level 8 says it’s 18.8%! Ridiculous. I hope the software update comes soon!

  • Today i mensured exacly the fat% with picometry: i have 14,6%. But Index signs 21,3; it would be correct if i were female, maybe the mistake is this in index calculation,

  • For any users that are seeing what they feel is an incorrect Body Fat % on their Index S2, please respond in the below format to help us investigate this.

    • Consent to be added to an internal case
    • Consent to access your Garmin Connect account (if needed)
    • What device/test are you comparing your Index readings to
    • What does your Index S2 display vs what does your reference device display
    • What is your activity class set to, and is this appropriate for your activity level

We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. We understand the frustration this can cause and hope to have more information to share as soon as possible.

  • yesterday the correct fat% is 14,6, mensured by my doctor with plicometer. Index reported 21.3% with activity calss 8 (witch is my correct class). Today i changet to 10, and % is 15.8. I consert to be added to internal case and access to my GC account.

We just got our new S2 and have a Tanita ironman too. The body fat on the garmin is higher for both of us. Mine has always been between 19-21% , garmin S2 has me at 28%. My husband is 14% and all the way up to 28% on the new garmin. The scales lie next to each other and read completely differently on both hydration and body fat. Our activity levels are 6 an 8 respectively. It does not make sense. We are a little irritated and hope that Garmin can answer to this.

    • I Consent to be added to an internal case
    • I Consent Garmin to access my Garmin Connect account
    • Withings Cardio + smart scale is my second reference scale
    • Index S2 display 20.5% fat while Withings displays 11.5% fat
    • Activity class set to 9 which is appropriate for my activity level (I workout 6 times per week)

I also had reference a medical measurement which was 11%

    • You have my consent to access my account and add me to the case.
    • I’ve used both Tanita Ironman scale and Withings Body+ Body Composition scale.
    • From the period of October 28th to November 12th the S2 scale displayed body fat from 24.5% to 19.3%.  In the same period of time Withings recorded body fat from 12.8% to 11.8%.  Tanita scale was never above 12%
    • Initial Activity Class 7 but changed to 8 and then 9.  Activity class of 8 to 9 is appropriate depending on the week.
