Does anyone have a positive experience with the Bounce?

I'm looking to buy a smart watch for our son for his birthday. If the Bounce works as advertised, it seems like it would be perfect... but the reviews are overwhelmingly negative. It's hard to believe Garmin would put out such a problematic product. I'm hoping the people with positive experiences just aren't posting about them... anyone out there?

  • We bought one Garmin Bounce for my son. Worst watch ever! Very disappointing. Invested a lot of money and my son broke the screen in a couple of months. If this is supposed to be a children's watch, why is not the screen scratch and impact resistant? Location and tracking works hit and miss. The battery life is bad, the watch does not even last 24hours charged. I expected more for this brand.

  • Garmin Bounce Cons:

Tracking is seriously lagged. You need to constantly request a refresh, it doesn't do so on its own.

Sleep is not truthfully  recorded. My daughters watch was on charge during the night and yet  there was recorded sleep with stages.

You cannot clearly hear the voice notes sent through the app.

Boundaries that you set on the watch cannot be customized for a more accurate zone. You end up zoning too much or too little. You cannot change the shape of the zone either.

Set text messages don't always fit with a response. Would be better if a response could be typed.

The watch needs to be charged every other day or every day depending on how often it is used.

  • Our son has had his watch for about a month now. We love it. Everything works as advertised, we never had any issues with charging. I did put a screen protector on his watch from the very beginning and he’s already broken 2 screen protectors, the watch itself has survived without a scratch, which I’m very happy for. The only issue I have is with the app. I always have to close and reopen the app to be able to view new messages from him. I recieved the notification that there’s a new message but it doesn’t appear in the app until I close it and reopen, which becomes annoying when you’re having a conversation with your kid. But we still communicate every single day through it. It’s been awesome. I don’t want to get him a smartwatch yet because of all the other extra stuff that comes with smartwatches, or a phone, but this has been an awesome middle for us. Basically just a fitness tracker with the ability to communicate which is exactly what I wanted. Our whole family has Garmin watches so it’s been awesome to compare steps while going on a hike together, and boys do their toe to toe challenges together (one has Bounce, the other has Vivofit Jr. 3). The only 2 things I’d like to see improved are:

-being able to call mom/dad instead of only voice messages

-improving the app to function better with receiving messages without having to close it.

And even though it’s not a big deal for us, it would be nice if the watch could keep charge longer than 2 days. I charge my watch once a week, and husband charges his once every 2 weeks, so it would be nice if the kids watch could keep charge a bit longer too but that’s not a deal breaker for us. Overall, we love the watch and happy there is an option out there for parents who want a fitness tracker with just a way to communicate with their kid.
