Pedal Reset Battery Cover Warning!

If you goto reset your Garmin it tells you to remove and replace the battery cover, but it doesnt tell you to limit the tightening of the cover to 3 or 4 turns like it does when the manual describes replacing the batteries. A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THE MANUAL.

I learned the hard way. Called customer support and made them aware of the issue. They want $55.00 to replace the $2.99 (my estimate of the real cost) plastic cover which will hopefully fix the issue. I shared my dissatisfaction with the manual and asked them to cover the cost but was refused. Pedals are 6 weeks old.

Garmin, if you are reading this.....IM NOT IMPRESSED.

t_smit question ? Are Garmin actually looking at a hardware fix to resolve the battery cover issue. They seem to be far to fragile for a product that cost us £850.

my pedals are working 100% so far but I am dreading the moment I need to replace the batteries.

It seems to me Garmin needs to be manufacturing a better battery cover to send out to everyone with the issue.

Electrical tape, foil and baby oil is not the answer !!!!

    t_smith Shawn-garmin I would like this too

Ive been having a lot of frustration with the Vector 3. Have them 11 weeks, avg 10 hours riding per week. Ive been having power dropouts regularly. Troubleshooted everything and the only thing that seemed to help was a battery change, but ive gone through 3 full sets of batteries estimating 30-40 hours usage before it drops again. Garmin suggest 120hours. Also all 4 flimsy o rings have broken. Ive never overtightened the covers but now they just turn in the pedal housing before even getting snug. Very disappointing.
  • Someone over on the DCR review comments is claiming to have been sent a redesigned battery cover. Let's hope someone from Garmin confirms this to be correct and a successful solution.

I've not had to change my batteries yet, and am dreading having to do so

Has anyone had any issue with battery life on their Vector 3? Im using the LR44 batteries and just wondering are the SR44s have a longer capacity. Im only getting about 1/4 the life of what Garmin claim (120hr+). Can anyone confirm they are getting close to 120hr from LR44s?
  • At this point, numbfeet, I'd be happy to see 40 hours of usage. My set didn't last 10 hours before getting "Right Pedal Sensor Missing". Checked the batteries last night with my Fluke. 2.75 volts for the stacks of 2 batteries. Brand new set measures to be 3.1 volts (or 1.5x volts per battery).

How many hours of riding have you done on your second set of batteries? Are you seeing that voltage on both sides or just one?
  • Had to send my pedals back as battery cover broke and left pedal died. £850 and after 6 weeks, completely useless. terrible quality. They have offered to replace them. However, if they fail a second time I will be returning and asking for a refund under the sale of goods act. Not fit for purpose. How could this known and persistent error have got through quality control?

I went to change the batteries for the first time on my Vector 3. Right side worked fine. On the left side the battery cover just kept spinning in the housing. I didn't feel it getting tighter as I turned it. I pulled it out and looked at the thread on the battery cover and on the housing. The housing thread is damaged as you can see in the pictures. There is no damage to the pedals since I only ride on the trainer. And, I'm 100% sure I didn't strip the thread by over tightening.

And, I got about 50 hours of riding on the batteries that came with the pedals. Not 120 as advertised but for now that is the least of my problems.

I see that one other poster included a photo of a stripped housing thread. It looks to me there is a significant design flaw here. Has anyone gotten this resolved by Garmin? Is it true that Garmin is sending out a replacement pedals with redesigned housing?

    Thanks

Has anyone changed the batteries without breaking something ? I'm a bit worried now.

On my first set I replaced batteries twice and swapped battery caps left to right and back with no issues though was genital in doing so after reading others problems, mines had a different software problem.
I received a new set last week from Garmin UK after waiting a extra 2 weeks for Garmin UK to have them back in stock so hoping if they have altered the design mine are redesign though not sure what I would be looking for.

I just barely scraped my Vector 3 left pedal yesterday and the battery cover went flying off! Needless to say, I was shocked at how flimsy the design of the pedal casing as well as the cover. I'll be contacting CS tomorrow and post on what they say since my pedals are also only about 2 months old.
