Significant battery drain when connected with Varia

On my five-hour outing this morning, I started with 100% battery on my edge 1000 and finished up with low battery warnings and only about 10%.

I was connected to a Varia for the first time and so the only thing I can imagine was that operating the Varia is responsible.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences
  • Not that I've noticed - longest ride I've done with it so far is 2hrs though
  • My first ride with Varia was Saturday 9/5/2015 for 4 hours and had No battery issues!

    Yes,

    I edge1000 low voltage appears about 2 ~ 3H,
But EDGE1000 varia AUBOT battery is HI,

The actual use of about 8H ~

Low voltage appears several times in the middle.
  • I don't see any battery issues so far. Today, I did a 4.5 hour ride. My Edge 1000 has pretty much every sensor attached: Speed/Cadence (Trek DuoTrap), HeartRate, Garmin Vector, Di2 D-Fly, and Varia Radar. And I also use LiveTrack on every ride. After the 4.5 hour ride, I still had 45% power on the Edge. I don't quite remember but the Varia had a ton of power left (mine is in PowerSave mode).

I just completed a century this past weekend. My Edge 1000 was on for a total of almost 7 hours. I turned it on before the ride started, kept it on during rest stops and after the ride was done until the data was uploaded via my phone. I had the Varia, my Vector pedals, my Virb Elite and bluetooth on and I still had about 17% battery left. It does seem to drain a little more battery. I think that it was reasonable given all the times the Edge sounded off on a car approaching as well as displaying the graphics.
  • 4 hour ride with Varia this morning. Was left with 30%.

I think that it should be better than this.

However, everything else went very well. Problems with the response times of the remote when the Varia was working was not noticed. Maybe that has been fixed with 5.10

I have done a number of 4+ hour rides. I have the following sensors connected: Trek DuoTrap, Vector, Varia, HeartRate, Di2. I have Bluetooth with LiveTrack enabled.

I typically have about 45% left after a 4+ hour ride. I have not noticed any further drain on the battery than before.
