Varia Rearview 820 and CIQ datafields

The following has been reported about the new Varia Rearview 820 radar:

It connects to the Edge device via Bluetooth as standard. Therefore, CIQ data fields do not receive any data from the radar because they rely on an ANT+ connection.

The 820 radar can also be connected to Edge devices via ANT+ as an alternative, but then the new lateral features will not be displayed on your Edge. However, vehicle speed transmission also no longer works for unknown reasons.

Conclusion: with the new Rearview 820 radar, the radar features do not work with CIQ data fields, or only to a very limited extent.

  • The developer of MyBikeRadarTraffic has posted an update on https://mybiketraffic.com/ regarding the Varir RearVue 820 and current compatibility.

I'd like to see Garmin implement similar functionality natively within their Edge/Varia ecosystem. Saving vehicle detection locations, distance, and speeds to the activity file. All things this ConnectIQ addon does. This would have been an excellent feature addition to roll out with the new 820.

  • and Edge battery status in GC (readable from FIT file) , especially for x50 users due to the limited battery life, would be a good feature to get notification via GC Mobile if the Edge's battery is under a pre-setted value and there would be a nice tile about the battery level (as last known battery level, ofc, with last sync time). lots of users keep the Edge on the bike , the bike is in the shed, garage, and on the morning, from bed, you would be able to check easily shall i charge the Edge before my ride (in time) or not.
