Why does my Varia App only show vehicle detection up to about 80 meters instead of 140 m?

Hi everyone,

According to the product documentation, the radar should be able to detect vehicles up to 140 m (about 153 yd) away.
However, in my tests, when a car icon first appears at the very bottom of the Varia App screen, the actual measured distance to the vehicle is only around 80 m.

To confirm this, I stopped my car at that point and measured the distance with a laser rangefinder — it consistently came out to about 80 m.
It seems that both the visual display range in the app and the actual alert distance max out around that distance.

I also have a question about the distance grid lines shown on both sides of the Varia App display.
Does each grid interval represent roughly 10 meters?
In my case, the maximum detection distance was about 80 m, which corresponded to around eight grid intervals — although I noticed that the grid lines shift continuously while the app is running.

Is this a known limitation of the Varia App’s display scale, or does the radar itself adjust its detection range depending on factors like angle, environment, or target type?

I’d appreciate any insights or similar experiences from other users.

Thanks in advance!
