How to make light off when connect to Edge and start ride only with radar?
How to make light off when connect to Edge and start ride only with radar?
You need to use the Smart Bike Lights ConnectIQ app to get this behavior. Highly recommended. https://apps.garmin.com/apps/0d9fd828-c932-4470-9c37-fd2828881888
Unfortunately, the native software turns off the radar if you have the light setting off. The manual says when light is in standby mode (device on but light setting off) then it will NOT detect vehicles. Although maybe this new firmware update will allow it, I have not installed it yet.
As far as I remember, if the radar is set to Individual in Light Network Settings, I can toggle the light off with the Varia's button but the radar will still work. I found this rather confusing since the manual, as you stated, suggests this is a stand by mode for both light and radar.
@5789130 As mentioned by Ewarnerusa, the Smart Bike Lights app is very useful but can be a bit much to wrap your head around setting it up. However, once you've got it, its a great app.
I've got it set to allow for a Smart Mode, where the radar is off while riding, but on a vehicle approach the radar will blink.
Easy.
Go into Sensors => network options => Light mode set to 'individual'
Then go back, go into your radar from 'Lights' screen and set 'Light mode' to 'Off'
Next time as soon as varia connects to your head unit the light will go off, but the radar will stay on.
I wouldn't recommend using the radar button to switch modes, use the light network widget instead
Whats wrong with the using the button in your opinion?
sometimes it collides with lights widget
Replying to myself here, but I thought I'd report my results as I've finally done the FW update to my Varia. Now when the light mode is manually set to off, the radar still functions but it does not trigger the main light alert on the Varia. It does show radar activity on the Edge. I suppose this is the intended behavior to comply with the countries that don't allow a flashing light.
Yes, and using an IQ app like Smart Bike Lights, you can set it to off, and have it flash, or turn on in case of TRL516, on radar detection.
Only if you have an older head unit, which isnt getting any os updates.
A have edge explorer 1
It does't work in this way.
If i switch off and switch on unit the light is always on as default.
