Varia rtl515 forbiden in France

Garmin offers the RTL516 in Germany, as an example of solution with a steady light.

You may use Smartbikelight data field with setting always steady light. Its simplest and smartest solution without any cost

I think Garmin will force dealers to sell the 516 like in Germany. If you want to ride a 510/515 here, you have to import it.

1/ Up to 6 hr. in solid mode

Smartbikelight is a data field for Garmin edge devices that control all modes of your light (it’s similar to garmin light network but with more more functions).

edited: My response applies to the eRTL515 and it did not work on a RTL515.

The Varia app allows the "Radar Threat Mode" to be turned off.  You can program the four available light settings for when you cycle the switch button.  You don't need the phone app to ride.  I turned off the "light network" sensor on my 1050 so control is only manual by the button on the Varia.  If there is a firmware update shown for the unit it will show in the app. 

This means on the 515 I can switch of the blinking light when cars approach?
I just bought one after my 510 gets low battery performance (especially now in winter) and the button is stuck.

Then all Garmin needs to do is programming a button in the lights control widget in the Edges to disabling radar threat mode on the ride. Even more important is the acoustic disabled for riding next to the road on a separated bike lane.

After I posted,  a friend tried it on his RTL515 and it does not have the program screen.  I should have mentioned I have an eRTL615.  It's a quite a bit newer model so you may have to wait for a redesign.
