Mounting the RCT715

I use a saddle bag on my bike(s). I'm trying to figure out what options I have for mounting the RCT715.

Two of my bikes have small seat stays and round seat posts. The third has a flat back seat post and fairly thick seat stays (Pinarello Prince from 2019).

It looks like I'd need to dump the saddle bag on the Pinarello in order to mount and use the RCT715. The other two bikes I could maybe mount on the left side seat stay.

What have you all done?

Mag-Cad makes 3d-printed saddle mounts for various saddles that have hard-mounts, like my Specialized Romin EVO S-works saddle. This is the best way to have a solid mount for the RCT715 and also have room…

Seems to be sold out, it was on the same page as the seatpost mounted one.

Trying to decide on a purchase of the Varia but I have the same issue. With a seat bad and rim brakes there’s no room on my 52 frame to mount it. The suggestions below for the seat rail mounts look like they would block my seat bag. Has anyone solved this.

I just received an email from Garmin about a saddle rail mount for Varia radar units. RCT715 is listed as one of the compatible devices. So, after buying a unit for $350 USD that many of us cannot mount using the included mounting hardware, we can spend another $50 USD for an alternate mounting device!

Since my original post, I have obtained a new bike, with another non-round seat post. I also obtained a bottle-shaped "toolbox", so I don't use a saddle bag on this bike. I guess I'll give this new mount a try....

I bought the saddle rail mount kit, and of course, I can only install it on a saddle with round metal rails. So that's a no-go on the Colnago C64, which has a Selle Italia Flite with carbon 7x9 rails.

I installed it on the Pinarello. Now, I want to get the RCT715 ready to use. I have the radar sensor paired to my Edge 1040. I think the camera is also ready to use, but I'm having trouble getting the light to pair up. I'm going to make a separate post about these issues.

I did a first ride with the RCT715 today, and I learned that I didn't tighten the parts of the mount kit well enough. The RCT715 started out perpendicular to the road, but it is pointing downward about 30 degrees when I got home. That heavy unit has to be respected!
