Does Varia power off when Edge is powered down?

I noticed recently that if my Varia was working -- light and radar -- and then I ended my ride and powered off the Edge 1030+, the light turned off. Does the Varia go into some sort of "sleep mode" or something under certain conditions such as the Edge disconnecting? Or should I make sure to explicitly turn it off when i'm done riding?

I've been using this gadget for a few years now and have apparently forgotten all the details about how the think works! Still does great at radar detection though.

By default, the Varia will go into stand-by mode when the Edge disconnects (e.g., you turned it off). There's also a mode where the Varia only turns on when you're actively recording a ride. When you're not actively recording a ride, the Varia goes to stand-by mode. Leaving it in one of those two modes works well for me as I don't have to remember to turn on/off the Varia for each ride.

Yes, I thought I saw it turn off right when I ended my ride and saved it -- not actually when I fully powered the Edge off. Do you know where those modes are controlled? Is it maybe from the Sensors screen?

I believe it's In the light network settings, specifically the "Light Beam Activated" setting. Garmin has general instructions for doing this: https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=H428bBYMVA3tX87Q40OE37

That explained it, but just out of curiosity, what is the "Peloton" mode that's mentioned there?

It makes the light not as bright so that you don’t blind the group (peloton) that you’re riding with.

LOL - Nice to know -- my wife was complaining yesterday when she was riding behind me, so I just turned the light off. Thanks for all your help!
