Horizontally Mounting of Varia RVR315

Between the problems caused by the seat dropper post and the Topeak rack, I must mount the Varia RVR315 horizontally or it will be too close to the rear tire. Does anyone know if it will work in this position? If the pattern is a 40 Deg. cone, detection should be independent of mounting geometry. Has anyone tested this mounting position?

I am researching mounts for this exact orientation. Figured I would just go out and test. I may just use a top cap mount in one hole and fab up some sort of o-ring retainer through the other hole to keep the Varia from twisting out.

I have not gotten around to that project yet. I don't see it as being a big deal though.

As my new mount attaches to the saddle rails the on-off button is inaccessible if mounted vertically. Mounted horizontally it seems about as sensitive as when mounted vertically.
possibly an aero “marginal gain” ?!

it detects vehicles well over the claimed 140 yards.

I just bought a saddle mount so I could use my Varia on my MTB as well. First mounting orientation and I had the same issue of not being able to access the on/off button. Took mount off the saddle rails and flipped it over, flipped the device mount part around, and now the Varia is a bit lower relative to the saddle and I can reach the on/off button. Works great.
