Varia 515 missing the odd car

Varia 515 and Edge 530 not detecting the odd car. I was out tonight and sensed a car behind although nothing detected on the radar. Car overtook and at no point did I get an alert. I am sure car didn't creep up on me and overtook at a speed I would assume would be detected (as occasionally happens if a car slows down behind before overtaking). This got me thinking as to what could cause this. The car was a Land Rover / Range Rover type of thing, quite new and maybe had a radar of it's own for cruise control. Could this affect the Garmin I wonder? Or could it have a radar detector to detect speed traps? Every other car seemed to be detected OK, so not sure what is going on. This happened once before but not sure of vehicle on that occasion. Anyone else had issues like this? Another thought is whether something like automatic gates near the road could "blind" the radar when passing. East Midlands Airport isn't far away but radar was facing away from it and not had this issue in other roads that were even closer to the airport.

  • I live near a radar base and no issues here. To be honest, I never had an issue with not detecting, sometimes are "issues" with detecting ghosts when riding near corrugated fence, which is completely fine.

  • Hi, I have found it reliable in the past and was surprised by the car not showing up, but every car before and after was. I looked back at my camera footage as to the exact location and I was passing the gated entrance to a crematorium, so maybe I too was detecting a ghost!
