Varia on my Helmet

Hello,

I am planning a touring bike trip on my bike and want to use my Varia radar.

The rack, panniers, saddle bag, etc have taken the normal places to place the Varia radar, so I am thinking of installing it on my helmet as the picture here.

Since it is normal to move the head left and right, look up and down, etc., it will not point to the rear as much as when it is installed on the rear of the bike.

Do you think it is OK?

Any comments or ideas will be appreciated.

Honestly, I think this would be a serious safety issue. You have a road safety device, which you'd like rely on, and yet you will miss a warning for example when looking slightly down or to the sides.

yea, blinking into drivers face is really a great idea :) and I really don't think that detection will work if you will constantly change its position.

If your head is 1200mm above the road...

As the others mentioned, the radar might miss some detection because of your head moving. Because you can buy helmets with integrated lights, but I don’t no if it is allowed with Varia mounted on the helmet because of its brightness.

why don't you mount it on your saddle bag?
those usually have something for rear light mounting

Hello

I am using a 10L saddle bag and when I attach the radar to it, it points to the sky.

Tried several ither options and none workew ok.

I am trying now to 3D print a base extension from the seat stays, but not coming out good.

What mount did you use to do this?

Did the wheel mess with it’s sensing ability?

I 3D printed a quarter turn base and bought some 2-sided tape to stick it.

I finally used my radar on my rear bike bag that had a place to pin it and placed a varia light on my helmet for added security on this base.

It worked great and I still use it.

Thinking of bike packing and worried the large under saddle won’t let the bike work well if it swings at all
