Current State of RTL510 and UT800 in Same Light Network on Edge 530

Hi,

I stumbled across quite a few threads where people report that it is essentially impossible to consistently and hassle free use an RTL510 and a UT800 in the same Light Network of an Edge 530. Is that still an issue? I need a new headlight and the UT800 would check many boxes but If I won't be able to use the "smart" features it is probably not worth throwing money at Garmin.

  • I have the Edge 530 paired to the 515 radar and got the ut800 headlight today. There seems to be a problem with the lights network, it just won't form it.

  • Well, I got the 510 but I am unsure whether that makes a bit difference - wouldn't make much sense if they don't form a Light Network, wouldn't it?

  • I tried one thing I read in another thread: I turned on the bike computer only after I had put my HRM pro band on first. The lights turned on as they were supposed to. It seems the light network is formed only after the edge gets to see another sensor first, like a HRM band or a cadence sensor.

  • Interesting - might be a way forward. I always have a power meter and an HR sensor connected, so maybe that is a way.

  • So, picked up an UT800 today and yes: Without any other ANT+ devices connect, the Edge 530 has issues forming a light network. However, after adding e.g. an HR monitor or Vector 3 pedals the light network comes to life immediately. All the settings seem to be working and I can hopefully give the whole setup a quick test on the next weekend.
