Does anyone know whether the UT800 is OK to be mounted so it sits above the handlebars, I.e. with the GoPro type lugs pointing down? Just wonder whether there is any kind of beam focusing in the light that will be incorrect if I invert the light?

Hi Rhino7
It doesn't look like the UT 800 is designed specifically for being used in one side or another and Garmin also sells the UT800 with a helmet mount.
But I suggest you look into the Bontrager Ion RT which is designed for sitting above the handlebars. I've just replaced my UT800 for this model because it offers twice the battery life of the UT800 in 800 lumens mode (I was fed up running out of juice with the UT800). Also, it is cheaper than the UT800 and can also be managed in ANT+ by the Garmin Edge.
Granted, the UT800 is 50 grams lighter and has a wonderful design, but LED and batteries technology has evolved in almost 4 years and Garmin really needs to refresh this model.
